REDL Update Alex Knudson  Economic Gardening update o List of nominated businesses o Stormy Kromer accepted, Brute Industries close  Mapping Michigan Assets o Submitted list of top resource-rich industries and assets as well as the top industries for growth. o Advanced manufacturing- what does it include for marketing purposes- consistent message. 3. Sites and Properties Update Alex Knudson  ZoomProspector vs. LOIS spreadsheet o Zoom set-up fee o Contract for REDL ends September 1, 2013- leaves Economic Developers to figure out Zoom & Lois on their own, limited support o Trying to get similar deal on Zoom as we got on LOIS o Zoom has more features than LOIS o Customized versions vs. non-customized….Less expensive but less features o As a region we would like unity in regards to using one service o Delta and Chippewa counties want to continue 4. CDC Update Amy Clickner  Regional Prosperity Program o $5 Million to help regions work collaboratively o Grand Vision plan in Traverse City  Governor’s Economic Summit o Went extremely well, 20 attendees from Region 1 o Region 1 breakout sessions- Natural Resource Commodities, Tourism, Skilled trades- what are employer needs? o Receiving assistance out of policy changes  Introduction of Energy Position Paper o MPSC Public Forum- Friday April 12th o Energy Task Force- Region 1 is in a unique position, infrastructure difference- power supplied from different states. o This paper is not in contemplation of the recent MISO Northern Michigan study. o Conversation ongoing 5. MEDC Update  Lois Ellis update o Visited 8 counties in 1st 5 weeks of taking new position, learning a lot so far  Joel Schultz o Increasing consulting across U.P. o Higher pace than last year o Michigan Celebrates Small Business May 2nd  Stacy Welling Haughey o Open house on DNR Land Management- April 17, NMU 6-8 o Tax reversion properties o Timber Summit  Donna Lacourt o Export needs- send to Chris Bosio o Other resources o Trade Missions  Jennifer Tucker o Michigan Preservation Conference – Main St. program started in Calumet and Iron Mountain o June 6th- Placemaking training- focus on all the tools from several agencies 6.
