
<p> Cool Tools Lesson Plan</p><p>Universal Expectation: Be Respectful; Be Responsible</p><p>Name of the Skill/Setting: Classroom</p><p>Purpose of the lesson/Why it’s important: How to work in small groups. Maintain a safe, quiet and orderly classroom when working in small groups. Be respectful of fellow students in small groups.</p><p>Teaching Examples: 1. Respect the abilities of everyone in your group. 2. Respect: Quiet voice level - loud enough for you group members to hear, not loud enough to disturb other groups. 3. Responsible: Work as a team (not an individual). Teach group roles (time keeper, note taker, discussion leader, helper - only person that can teacher a question.) 4. Responsible: For Help: Helper sees 3 other students before getting help from teacher. Only 2 teacher assists.</p><p>Kid Activities/Role-Plays: 1. Role play: Being assigned a group without your friends. Teacher role plays what not to do, using real examples from students. Several students role play what to do and say. 2. Role play: Being assigned a group with your friends. Teacher role plays what not to do, using real examples from students. Several students role play what to do and say.</p><p>Follow-Up Reinforcement Activities: . Using 4 finger rubric, (1 = poor; 2 = fair; 3 = good; 4 = excellent), small groups rate themselves on how they did in the following areas: Voice level Respecting each others abilities Team work/Following group roles Completing the task Tickets given for students complimenting following group roles, or completing work on time; or following procedure for getting help; or using the right voice level. Choose a different area to focus on each day. Don’t tell them what the ticket will be for.</p>
