<p> UNIVERSITY OF DERBY JOB DESCRIPTION</p><p>JOB TITLE Estate Development Project Manager</p><p>DEPARTMENT Estate Management</p><p>LOCATION Kedleston Road</p><p>JOB NUMBER 0034-17 SALARY Up to £45k dependent on experience</p><p>REPORTS TO Senior Project Manager</p><p>Role Summary</p><p>To work as part of the Estates project management team acting as Project Manager on assigned building works projects. These include a mix of new build, refurbishment and light civil engineering schemes. The value of projects undertaken by the department over a 12 month period typically ranges between £2m and £30m, with individual projects rising from minor refurbishment schemes of £100k up to major new builds of £20m. The Project Manager will lead on a portfolio of projects throughout the year, with the majority of works being delivered to a tight timescale throughout the summer months.</p><p>Principal Accountabilities 1. Manage multiple building development projects from inception to completion, including client liaison, preparation of tender documentation, cost estimating and budget analysis/control.</p><p>2. Ensure successful delivery of projects in respect of quality/time/cost, taking responsibility for establishing and maintaining excellent communication links with a range of internal and external stakeholders.</p><p>3. Prepare detailed specifications, CAD drawings and tender documents for building development projects and/or repairs of a specialist nature, e.g. re-roofing works, fire precaution works etc.</p><p>4. Supervise the works through the entire project life-cycle, including quality audits and contract administration (eg valuation payments, variation orders and the like) required to ensure the efficient running and successful delivery of the contract.</p><p>5. Observe procedures and policies relative to the scope of works to ensure compliance with statutory legislation and University directives.</p><p>1 6. Work with the internal H&S Adviser and/or external CDM-C to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff, students and the general public during construction activities.</p><p>7. Continued professional development by attending seminars and courses relevant to the scope of works.</p><p>8. Carry out any other duties as may, from time to time, be required and appropriate to the post.</p><p>Person Specification</p><p> Essential Criteria</p><p>Qualifications</p><p> Relevant qualification to at least HND level in a building-related discipline</p><p>Experience</p><p> Significant experience working within a contract management/project management role within the construction or higher education estates sector</p><p>Skills, knowledge and abilities</p><p> Demonstrable proficiency in the use of AutoCAD  Strong IT skills, in particular with the use of project-related software (eg MS Project, Excel)  Excellent written and verbal communication skills  Strong knowledge of contract administration and contract law (notably JCT and NEC suite of contracts)  Thorough understanding in the use and application of the Building Regulations and CDM Regulations  Ability to manage a portfolio of projects with often competing priorities  Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills  Able to demonstrate a creative and innovate approach to problem solving</p><p>Business requirements</p><p> Highly motivated to deliver to tight deadlines with a demanding environment  An inherent customer service ethos  Ability and willingness to travel between University sites and other locations as and when required</p><p> Desirable Criteria</p><p>Qualifications</p><p>2  Membership of a professional body relevant to either construction or project management (eg CIOB, CMI)  Qualification in project management (eg PRINCE 2 or API) and/or health & safety (eg IOSH)</p><p>Experience</p><p>Skills, knowledge and abilities</p><p>  Knowledge of project management software (eg Brightworks)  Knowledge of asbestos management and associated procedures in relation to building development</p><p>Business requirements</p><p> Highly motivated to deliver to tight deadlines with a demanding environment  Flexible approach to working hours with occasional evening or weekend working</p><p>3 Benefits </p><p>26 days holiday per year, plus statutory, concessionary and closure days, plus the opportunity to buy up to four days each leave year.</p><p>Opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme.</p><p>For more information on the benefits of working at the University of Derby go to http://www.derby.ac.uk/hr</p><p>We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expect everyone who works for us to also share this commitment and to treat people with courtesy and respect. </p><p>4</p>
