<p> SOUTH HERO SCHOOL BOARD Meeting Thursday, February 4, 2016 At Folsom Education & Community Center</p><p>Agenda Call meeting to order: Meeting called to by Kris Bowser at 6;00 p.m. Adjustment of Agenda: No adjustment Approval of Minutes of January 21, 2016: Motion made by Bernie to approve the January 21, 2016 minutes, second by Mike , approved</p><p>Attendees: Kris Bowser, Chair Mike Bishop, Board Member Bernadette Toth, Board Member Jenny Perry, Principal Barbara Burrington, Superintendent Lynn Carpenter, Business manager</p><p>Community Members: Melissa Hood, Ethan Hood, Lucia Pendalino, Patrick O’Hara, Rosemary Zamore, Peg Clark, Jocelyn Smith, Alicia Poquette, Helen Bishop, Kathy Robinson, Rebekah Prouty, Bentley Vaughan, Tim Maxham, Doug Patterson, Peter Gregg, Peter Siegfried, Kari and Bill Banas, Gretchen Patteron, Sandy Gregg, Lisa Pendalino, Melanie Henderson</p><p>Public Comments</p><p>SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT: The superintendent Barbara Burrington shared on highlights of the GISU: * GISU Director of Curriculum, Elaine Pentelari handed in her resignation and was accepted. An interm will fill that position. * Curriculum: primary goal for our teachers and leadership teams is to continue with our work prioritizing our standards and developing proficiency scales. * Act 46: VSA Communication: As you have likely read and heard, the House met in a middle of the night session Saturday at 12:01 A.M. After relatively little debate, the members voted 92-32 to concur with the Senate's proposal of further amendment to S.233. The Governor signed the bill on Saturday. </p><p>* Integrated Field Review Pilot: This is now scheduled for the fall and winter of the 2016 – 2017 school year. * Special Education: The GISU would like to welcome a new Speech and Language Pathologist, Carissa Hallam, to the SU. * Special Education News: The Vermont Counsel of Special Education Administrators (VCSEA) 2016 Legislative Priorities will be: </p><p>Funding Structures to support the Multi-Tiered of Supports Models of Service Delivery </p><p>Mental Health Service for Children and Families </p><p>If you would like more information on the VCSEA and their priorities please contact Beth Hemingway- Director of Student Support Services for GISU. </p><p>* Preschool-Act 166: School board members are encouraged to read Act 166 as full implementation starts July 1, 2016.</p><p>* SWIFT (School wide Integration Framework for Transformation): Each school will be taking part in the FIT (Fidelity Implementation Tool) that measures how individual schools are doing at implementing the 5 SWIFT Domains and Features. These will be completed prior to April break. </p><p>PRINCIPAL’S REPORT: The principal, Jenny Perry shared: * Student body is still holding at 132. * Folsom ranked #7 in the 2016 Best Public Elementary School in Vermont. * Maintenance: Steve had to repair some leaking pipes. * PBiS: The student body reached their goal of 10,000 stars and will be celebrating on February 9th at Spare Time Bowling. * World of Difference Event: W.O.D student representatives lead bully prevention, self awareness, and team building stations to grades K - 6.</p><p>BOARD DISCUSSION: * ACT 46 Update: A large group of community members came to give suggestions to the board on their thoughts and concerns about Act 46: - Individuals express that they liked the 7/8 model within the school. Three high school former students spoke about they felt about the 7/8 model. - One community member suggested to become private. This research can not be done by the board but only done by the town. - Kris and Lynn (GISU business manger) presented a stand alone model of Folsom but still is very costly. One family strongly suggested that we go that way. - Kris presented another option which would be to work with the Georgia School. This would keep school choice but also expand programs and resources. Community members that were there really liked this idea. - Town Meeting Presentation: Put on next agenda and board members will receive the presentation in their email.</p><p>Consideration of Hiring a Board Secretary: Suggested to hire a secretary to take minutes for the board.</p><p>BOARD ACTION: *Approval of Bills for Payment: Mike made a motion to pay the bills, seconded by Bernie, approved.</p><p>Mike made a motion that with State approval, the South Hero School Board seeks to join the Georgia committee in research for consolidation. Seconded by Kris, approved</p><p>Mike made a motion that the South Hero School Board hire a secretary before Town meeting day to take meeting minutes.
