<p>Dear Parents and Students,</p><p>As part of this year’s music curriculum, your child will be learning to play the recorder. The recorder provides a wonderful opportunity for students to become an independent musician. I hope that by giving the students a positive, enjoyable learning experience they will be encouraged to develop more interest in music and playing instruments. Fourth graders learn to play the recorder and further their music reading skills throughout the rest of the school year. Students will be responsible for their recorder in class and at home. It should be with them for every music class but they do have the option to store it in the music room. Recorders will be played during regular class time but students will also have the opportunity to participate in Recorder Karate. They can earn ‘belts’ by practicing and playing songs of increasing difficulty. Every student will need a recorder. If your student already has a recorder, please indicate that on the form below. Any recorder from home should be from a school program or purchased through a music store. Separk Music in Lewisville is handling the purchase of our recorders. Let them know you are from Clemmons Elementary by using the attached coupon for a discounted price. You may go to the store yourself and pick up a Yamaha recorder or turn in your order by February 17th, and I will pick it up for you. If I haven’t received your order by then, I will assume you are picking up your own recorder. Books are not required but if your student wishes to participate in recorder karate, they will need a book to practice at home. The book must be ordered through the school. Please have your child return the order form to me by Wednesday, February 17th. There is also an online payment option on the CES website under ‘Quick Links’ then ‘Online School Payments.’ If you choose the online option, there will be a very small surcharge. Please still turn in the form below and mark ‘paid online.’ Your child can bring their order form and payment to me in the morning when they arrive at school.
