<p> Battleship Vicki Mester Benton Elementary</p><p>Motor Skills- Standard #1 Throwing Social Skills- Standard # 4 Teamwork, social skills</p><p>Equipment needed 6 gymnastic mats—These are the battleships 8-10 yarn balls of each of the 6 colors (can also add 6” foam balls) 2 scooters of each color for each battleship, these are the rescue boats 2 buckets of each color for each battleship (these are optional) </p><p>Game Rules</p><p>Each team has their own colored equipment 8-10 yarn balls 2 scooters 2 buckets (optional) 1 gymnastic mat 5 bowling pins (flow cones, or cylanders, pringle cans etc.)</p><p>Team size depends on number in class. 4-8 Each team has option of one or two rescue boats. They ride or push scooter around to collect their color ammo balls and then return it to their battleship. Scooter –rescue boat players are not allowed to throw yarn balls.</p><p>The rest of the team must stay on the mat and stay on their feet (no sitting or kneeling) Their job is to throw balls and try to knock over the other teams targets (bowling pins, cylindars, flow cones) and to guard their battleships pins. Use good throwing form! If a teams 5 pins are knocked down the battleship is sunk! Sit down on mat no more throwing. Or you could have them walk around the gym not interfering with the game or do exercises.</p><p>Variation: WWII version Battleship Integrating WWII history</p><p>Play with 3 ships being USA and 3 ships being Japan and integrate WWII history in to the game.</p><p>Talk about Pearl Harbor and the attack by Japan. Show them a picture of the battleship Arizona that is still sunk in Pearl Harbor and to this day still seeping oil. It has a memorial built over it.</p><p>You could also talk about the USS Enterprise being the most decorated Battleship in WWII that received several rewards , Presidential Unit Citation, and the Navy Unit Commendation. The USS Enterprise was the highest decorated US ship ever. My father was in the Navy and flew his plane off the USS Enterprise. Variation 2-</p><p>With the younger kids you can let them throw any ball no matter what color. This makes the game go faster.</p>
