Hyperlinking library names in catalogue records  Bilal has completed this task.  The library name displayed beside the call number in the catalogue record will now to that library’s details webpage (hours, directions, etc.)  Discussion – WAC members are aware that we might receive feedback that the link should not link to a library’s details page but instead should redirect users to the item.  Judith inquired if the design of the Library Pages could be updated – ACTION - James will put this topic on agenda for next meeting. c. Report problem link  Should we add a “Report a problem” link at the bottom left corner of webpage next to “Accessibility. Tell us about a web accessibility problem”.  ACTION - James will review the previous meeting minutes to confirm the discussion.

d. Drupal page for WAC  Webpage maintenance schedule that Margaret brought up previously and the need for WAC group to have access to the page for Web Maintenance schedule etc. (discussed last meeting). We have WAC committee page for the minutes – onesearch.library.utoronto.ca/web-advisory-committee  Web Maintenance schedule (listing of all WebPages within UTL)– discussed that we would need a page to maintain / update those entries and you can see who owns the pages so we can touch base with the owner and remind them to update.  Who will maintain the page – everyone in the group having access to another private page as an Intranet page or libguide, upload documents Collaborative editing – suggestion to use Confluence but decided that it wouldn’t be best. Or is it better being a Drupal account?  ACTION - Marc and Margaret will meet and look at the document and assess what would be the best way to deal with the Web Maintenance schedule. There may be a Drupal module that will check for the last time the page has been updated. Who owns that function?  Previous Minutes - “Contact us page: Suggestion about making chat hours dynamic. Can a feed be embedded and automatically updated? - Judith will ask Klara if a feed is available. Lari will be asked to monitor hours etc. for phone option.” Judith confirmed that it’s not possible but they would be happy if it was figured out and implemented.

e. Do “on order” materials still appear as “no item” in catalogue?  Update will be added to agenda for the next meeting

4. Updates from UTL Mobile Group (Judith)  MUTL meeting met. It can be used on iPads and some of the major Android tablets. The Android app will be further developed.  Just login with your UTor ID. 5. E-resources link under the Research menu (Judith)  A patron wanted to know search option for e-resource that was available under the research menu if it could be brought back.  That option is no longer easy to pull info because we have so many e-resources and the records that were used for the action are no longer populated. But is there a way to make this information more findable using the library catalogue metadata.  Is there a way to sort by top of online resources in the library catalogue when you limited to online? Marc noted it would be better if we can find a solution through the catalogue.  ACTION – Judith, Marlene, Marc and perhaps Debbie will discuss this issue.

6. LibQual Update (Margaret) See attached documents: LibQUAL Slides (supplied by Lari Langford) Indentifying Contribution or Impact on LibQUAL Questions  Action plan to communicate to public that will fit into the Strategic Plan  Examples of comments submitted in LibQUAL  2010 and 2013 comparison – generally things has been improved for UTL Central Top 5 Desired Services and top 5 Perceived Services for:  Undergraduates – (same response rate than 2010)  Graduates – (higher response rate than 2010)  Faculty – (higher response rate than 2010)  Issued presented in terms of electronic services that are relevant to WAC. Only negative responses were from faculty for Information control. UTL wants to targets these issues in Strategic. Faculty’s negative views on access to electronic resources/finding electronic resources include:  Accessing electronic resources at home  Navigating library WebPages more easily  In the handout – Information Control - IC1, IC2, IC6, IC8 Discussions on how to find out more details from Faculty:  Faculty of Music, UTSC Library and UTM Library have Advisory Committees could be a support in investigating what faculty want through those channels.  Lisa suggested usability testing or survey. ITS focused on those strategies for Responsive Catalogue. ACTION - Lisa will provide feedback  Monique suggested to using the Focus on Research page to promote subject specific areas that they have self-identified

8. Webinar – NISO Webinar: From Device to Device: Adaptive Interfaces for Content (Carla)  Carla recommends this Webinar that happened just before today’s WAC meeting  Examples mentioned in the webinar – Boston Globe and Guardian UK.  Webinar will be available later and Gail will send out an email to notify staff.

Description: Content providers and libraries are struggling with the bests way to make their e- content adapt to the wide diversity of devices—including desktops, laptops, tablets, e-readers, and smartphones. For decades, the PDF document format has been the fallback for digital content display, despite its shortcomings. But new developments and standards from file formats to improved cascading style sheets, adaptive layouts, graphics scaling, and device recognition are encouraging the move away from PDF, but many challenges remain. When is reflowable text or fixed layout the best approach? Can a user have a common experience regardless of device being used or should the goal be to provide the best experience for the particular device? How can authors and publishers ensure that specialized content such as graphics and tables are not lost or garbled when presented to a smaller screen? Is there an efficient way to produce and distribute content without re-creating it for every different potential device and format? Is it possible to create device-agnostic content?

Understanding these issues is critical both for publishers who need to efficiently distribute content and for libraries who will be purchasing this content and ensuring their patrons, with their variety of devices, can access the electronic content they need. This webinar will describe some advances in adaptive publication design and provide a basis for what you can expect for making content device agnostic. Speakers: Jean Kaplansky - Digital Content Solutions Architect, Aptara Toby Plewak - Product Strategist, Publishing Technology
