Your tutor may then lead a tutorial group discussion in which each group can present their discussion points. Refer to Chapters 2, 3 and 19 of Avison and Fitzgerald (2003) to assist in thinking about and discussing the questions.

1. Would you adopt the SDLC for developing a small application on a PC? Would you modify it in anyway and if so, how? Give reasons for your answers (from Avison & Fitzgerald 2003, p. 40).

2. Consider the 6 objectives of systems development methodologies identified in Chap. 2.3 of Avison and Fitzgerald (2003). Which of these do you consider most important? Which of these do you think are met by the SDLC and approach and which are met by Structured Analysis?

3. Why do you think that the needs of strategic management have been omitted from information systems in traditional systems analysis approaches? What, if any, are the implications of ignoring them? Can these needs be met by systems development methodologies and in what ways?

4. In the STRADIS methodology described in Chap. 19.1 of Avison and Fitzgerald (2003) the analyst is required to define both organizational and system objectives. How would you define these and how do they differ?

5. What advantages does Structured Analysis have over the traditional SDLC approach to systems development?

6.
