Instructions for Using Regents Physics Questions in Moodle

Instructions for using Regents Physics Questions in Moodle

Some of you may teach Regents Physics in NY, others may just want to use the MC questions from the Regents Exams in your Moodle Courses.

I have managed to get all of the MC questions from June 2002 to June 2010 into Moodle. (As pictures of the questions). That is 16 exams of about 50 MC questions each. I did not do anything with the part C (free response)

I will post a ‘How to’ video on www.youtube.com/prerequisitename, look for a video with a title like, “How to Import Regents Physics Questions into Moodle” in the near future. Until then…

1. Download the Zipped RegentsPics Folder, and Upload this Zip Folder to the top level of your Moodle Site.

2. Unzip the file at the top level of your course. You should now see a folder called "RegentsImages". Do not move this folder.

3. Go into the RegentsImages Folder and open the 00RegQuestions2010.txt file. 4. Save the file temporarily to your computer, and open it notepad or another program. 5. Do a find/replace for: http://physicsteachers.ninehub.com/file.php/24

Replace with your course location & course number and save this file on your computer temporarily. Keep the name of the file the same, 00RegQuestions2010.txt and save it. You should see the course website address and course number in the address bar of your brower when you first log into your course.

6. In moodle go to: a) questions b) Import, c) Select GIFT format d) Check 'Get Category From File' e) Check 'Get Context From File' f) Upload the Modified 00RegQuestions2010.txt file. g) Finish the import process.

7. You should now have NYS Regent Questions in categories by Unit, and subcategories by topic, as well as By Exam, and even by question number.

8. When you make quizzes from these questions, make sure you do not scramble the choices or it will be confusing. Also understand that some questions span multiple topics so if you select questions randomly, you may get some repeats.

Please send any questions or feedback to: [email protected]

Also, if you have sources of questions you would be interested in collaborating with to import into Moodle, or some other sort of digital repository please let me know. The above is all part of a much larger Excel/VBA question repository I am working on.
