The project brings diverse stakeholders together in an intentional process to build cross-sector relationships and partnerships. BikeShare allows implementation of a critical goal of Milwaukee’s 2005 Sustainability Plan by supporting balanced transportation systems that include bicycle and pedestrian friendly infrastructure. BikeShare also aligns with the 2013 Sustainability Plan now under development and can serve to demonstrate how other strategies to be outlined in the new plan might be launched.

With critical funding in place, BikeShare is poised for implementation, installing 25 bike stations throughout Milwaukee. BikeShare can serve as a model for replication based on its strong characteristics for success. It is led by well-respected community leaders, it is based on national bike sharing models adopted in other cities, and it has completed extensive due diligence to ensure effective local adoption. BikeShare has strong private sector support providing financial matching investment to the project. BikeShare also has strong public sector support, including formal adoption through a Milwaukee Common Council resolution approved by the Mayor. Finally, BikeShare has strong philanthropic support as members of the local sustainability funders group, led by The Brico Fund, have jointly agreed to support BikeShare as a trial to observe the challenges and opportunities of attempting aligned funding behind a common sustainability project.

Primary Contact Person

Name: Juli Kaufmann Title: Consultant to The Brico Fund, and Member of Milwaukee Green Team Organization: Fix Development Mailing address: 255 W.
