SLOW DOWN and investigate how the writer is making the nouns you have verified – move. How has the professional writer made the nouns come to life and move through your imagination! </p><p>Relax and enjoy your time here! The Landing is a place for reflection, exploration, and failure! Trial and error is encouraged. Mistakes lead to interesting conversations with others. Collaboration allows each thinker to examine a problem from different perspectives. Take action and stay hungry! </p><p> Brush Stroke One: It is not a wholeciple, but a participle. A participle is a verb + ing or a verb + ed. (smiling)  Brush Stroke Two: Absolute Zoom! An absolute is a noun + a participle. (eyes smiling)  Brush Stroke Three: Are you positive? Yes! It’s an appositive! Use those commas so your writing does not put the reader into a coma! Hook’em up and tell more about the noun! (The teacher, eyes smiling, helped the learner work above an A!  Brush Stroke Four: “Everybody’s shufflin” the adjective out of order! Shuffle the adjective from in front of the noun and shuffle it to the other side! (The teacher’s truck, red and experienced, glides down the road toward Heinz Field.)  Brush Stroke Five: Take Action with Action Verbs! Avoid the “To Be” Verbs, they sting your writing and make it STOP! Here are some common “To Be” Verbs: am, are, is, was, were, be, being, and been. Replace them with action verbs! o (The two bees were on the left side of my face.) o (The two bees buzzed around the left side of my face.)  Brush Stroke Six: Your reading and writing will begin to add up when you reluctantly start using Adverbs. Adverbs are notoriously abundant throughout our language, so let’s focus on the adverbs that end in LY! The shinny stuff looks like similes, metaphors, alliteration, irony, personification, onomatopoeia, symbolism, allusion, allegory, and a bunch of other things that make a writer’s world come alive within your blooming brain of beauty!
