<p> COMPETENCY PROFILE BUILDING CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY BTC: BCT 123 (4 credits) Framing Methods: Wall Framing This course is designed to help students gain proficiency in the methods used to frame wall structures in light frame construction. Topics covered include, blueprint reading, interior and exterior walls, layout, assembly, erection, special framing and material estimation. Learning Objective: students will gain proficiency in the methods used to frame wall structures in light frame construction.</p><p>1. Identify and discuss common framing methods. Students will demonstrate the ability to: . Identify the components of a wall layout. . Describe procedure for laying out a wood frame wall. . Describe the correct procedure for assembling & erecting an exterior wall. . Identify the common materials & methods used for installing sheathing on walls. . Explain the use of metal studs in wall framing. . Describe wall framing techniques used in masonry construction. . Estimate the materials required to frame walls.</p><p>2. Read and understand blueprints. Students will demonstrate the ability to: . Read and interpret architectural building plans as they relate to wall layout and construction.</p><p>3. Lay out for and construct interior and exterior building walls. Students will demonstrate the ability to: . Check floor for square and level. . Locate, snap and label wall lines and demonstrate ability to preserve chalk lines once established. . Cut plates to correct length and tack to wall lines. . Determine rough openings for doors and windows. . Layout and label stud locations. . Assemble wall framing members to IRC requirements and/or plan specifications. . Square walls. . Raise, brace, plumb, secure, tie in, and straighten walls. . Install sheathing material to IRC requirements and/or plan specifications.</p><p>4. Understand and comply with OSHA/WISHA Construction Safety Standards.
