As such this itinerary may be altered slightly during the trip due to this or the abilities of the group on the day. We also aim to allow time for both carers and people living with dementia to relax and enjoy time both together and apart. Your Itinerary Day 1: Today we make our way to glorious South Devon and arrive at our wonderful accommodation, The Beach House. Pickups from Exeter St Davids train station can be arranged. On arrival have a cup of tea, explore the house and surrounding gardens. Then maybe take a stroll down to the local beach for a blast of fresh air before a hearty dinner getting to know your fellow guests. Day 2: Today we head over to Sidmouth to visit the famous Donkey Sanctuary (half hour drive) and meet the lovely donkeys, and find out how they can be therapists. Donkey-Assisted Therapy is known for its benefits to people with additional needs, and we may be able to have a taster session to find out more. It’s a beautiful green site with a great café, and we’ll enjoy lunch here. You can then walk this off on the (optional) three mile walk down into Sidmouth. With its lovely prom and seafront hotels, our team will meet you and drive the short distance via Otterton to Budleigh Salterton. Set on the estuary of the River Otter, it’s a beautiful seaside town for a stroll and maybe a bit of beachcombing. From Budleigh it’s another three mile walk back along the coastal footpath or you can get a lift if you don’t fancy the walk. We’ll gather back at the house for an evening of conviviality and a well earned rest! Day 3: Today we will take the open topped cruise boat up the river Exe from Exmouth to Topsham. The Stuart Lines boat is easily accessible and has drinks available on board, and we cruise up the river enjoying the views and fresh air. The exact timetable today depends on the tides to a large extent, but exploring the Exe estuary is the order of the day. During the day we will have a picnic lunch. If weather permits. We may be able to visit the beach hut today as an extra treat for tea, a paddle on the beach and maybe even watch the kite surfers out on the water. This evening we will take a stroll out to town to have dinner out as a group. Day 4: Our destination today will be Bicton Park Gardens; a formal Italian Garden, with its fountains, lake, flower-beds and ornamental trees. Some of the world’s rarest conifers form a dramatic landscape in the Pinetum. Other special areas include the American Garden, Stream Garden, Mediterranean Garden and Rose Garden. Bicton Woodland Railway gives visitors an ideal way of viewing the parkland and we can explore the glasshouses too, including the Palm House, “One of the most beautiful glasshouses in the world”. We can even enjoy a traditional Devon Cream Tea here.. This evening we will enjoy dinner back at the house and celebrate a great week! Day 5: After breakfast, we will bid a fond farewell to our hosts and make our way back home.
