These are the qualities that define Sanders School. We wish to appoint a headteacher who will bring the vision, energy, expertise and resilience to build on these strengths and lead Sanders successfully through the next stage of development. You may already have headship experience and be looking for a new challenge, or you may be ready to take that next step after honing your leadership skills as a deputy head or senior leader. By the time you take up your appointment at Sanders, if you are successful in your application, our school will have become the newest member of The Success for All Educational Trust. This means that you will be able to draw on the experience, expertise and resources of the Executive Head, Paul Ward, and of the other schools in the MAT as well as senior, pastoral and subject leaders and governors at Sanders itself. As you will have seen from the information you have been sent, Sanders School has been through a challenging time. You will also have seen that the curve is swinging upwards, with students’ attainment and progress improving and governance being strengthened by the establishment of an Interim Executive Board which has brought together a well-balanced range of academic and organisational experience. She joined Ofsted’s English survey team in 2007 and was National Lead for English and Literacy from November 2012 to September 2014. She is a qualified teacher and has 18 years’ headship experience. In 1981, she had a Schoolteacher Fellowship at Merton College, Oxford. While teaching in London, she also wrote commentary and notes for student editions of modern play texts and tutored students in the English department of UCL. In September 2014 Patricia set up an education consultancy specialising in school leadership and management, curriculum development and evaluation, teaching, learning and assessment. Currently, she is the external consultant commissioned by the Havering Learning Partnership to help secondary schools and colleges improve the attainment and progress of all student groups. She is also providing strategic support for schools causing concern within East Sussex as well as running training for school and subject leaders across the country. She is a member of the Expert Subject Advisory Group for English and chaired the steering group for a Sainsbury-funded project to improve literacy across Key Stage 3. David Allen As Strategic Finance Manager within Havering local authority, David is a member of the Senior Management Team of the Education Service involved in issues affecting the educational provision of pupils and students across the borough. In post since 1997, David is responsible for the allocation to schools and early years providers of around £200m of funding and the management oversight of Local Authority budgetary provision for core and statutory services. David and the teams he manages support Havering schools in the administration and management of their pupil data and in meeting their financial responsibilities. David’s experience and knowledge of the education system bring clear benefits to the students and staff of Sanders School. Justin Barrett Justin has been the Business Manager at Redden Court since January 2012. In that time, he has overseen the budget management of the school in a climate of financial austerity and ensured budgets have balanced and the school has lived within its means. He has been instrumental in securing contracts and goods and services at best possible value and ensured that services within the school enhance the experience of students and provide value. A Human Resources (HR) professional, he has worked within HR teams for over 20 years within the public and charitable sector, with an emphasis on learning and development, employee relations and recruitment. He has recently resigned his position as chair of the Local Government Pension Scheme Pension Board in Havering as an employer representative, where he was instrumental in the development of the board from its inception. Justin has been a director ofa charitable, organisation called Charity Works that provides work placements for graduates within the charity sector. He was Chair of Governors at Rise Park Infant School for 12 years and has considerable experience as a school governor. He was observer for the IEB that was set up when Rise Park Junior School was placed in special measures and was instrumental in the set-up of the Rise Park Academy Trust, where he supported the Academy conversion of the Infant school and sponsorship of the Junior school. David Hodge David Hodge has been involved with school governance for the past 10 years, as a Governor at Rush Green Junior School and Vice Chair at Rush Green Infants School. When the two schools were amalgamated in Autumn 2013 he was elected to the Interim Governing Body. The two Schools were both RI on amalgamation; in July 2014 the amalgamated School, Rush Green Primary, was categorised as good by Ofsted. He has been Chair of Rush Green Primary School since 2014. He was Vice Chair of St Margaret’s C of E School Barking until the 11st September 2017 when he resigned as a governor. Keith Williams Under his leadership, the Campion School in Havering is well established as successfully engaging and challenging students from Year 7 to Year 13. Until very recently, Keith was Vice Chair of the Havering Learning Partnership Headteachers’ group and continues to be rigorous in his evaluation of how effectively the agreed action plan is being implemented. His judgement and his experience are extremely valuable as Sanders School’s IEB tackles significant challenges. Sanders School, Suttons Lane, Hornchurch RM12 6RP 4 www.sandersschool.org.uk Sanders School Learning Today...Leading Tomorrow Sanders School Interim Executive Board Remit for IEB Identify and promote strategic priorities to steer the school through: • Appointment of a substantive headteacher, who will lead the school as it settles into membership of The Success for All Educational Trust (SFAET), in which Redden Court is the lead school and for which Paul Ward, as the Executive Head, will have line management of the Sanders School headteacher • Review and restructure of staffing at all levels, to avoid duplication and to bring the cost of staffing down to an agreed proportion of the school’s total expenditure, recognising that several administrative and support functions will be centralised within SFAET • Maintaining effective leadership and management, providing challenge and support and setting ambitious targets, until a local, school-based governing body is established within SFAET. The Success for All Education Trust • The SFAET is a relatively new trust that has been in existence since October 2016. The trust currently consists of two schools: Redden Court School and The Royal Liberty School, with agreement that Sanders School should join at the start of the next school year if it meets expectations about finance and staffing. The origin of the trust is based on a desire to improve secondary school outcomes within Havering, Havering secondary schools being a cause for concern with the Regional Schools Commissioners. • Redden Court School, the trust’s lead/sponsor, is a mixed 11-16 comprehensive school of 800 pupils. Their forward-thinking and progressive strategy is to use advanced technology and a rich variety of educational approaches to achieve the best for their students. Notably, Redden Court School is one of only a few comprehensive schools in the country who have accredited Thinking Schools status. Their approach to teaching and learning focuses on the development of thinking skills, growth mindsets and increasingly flexible learning.
