B L Sunday, September 11 Our tour today takes us into the countryside south and west of Munich, to the fairy tale castle of Neuschwanstein, built by the Bavarian King Ludwig II. This is one of the most famous castles in Europe. After touring the castle this morning we have lunch nearby. We’ll visit the beautiful gardens at Linderhof Castle this afternoon, and afterwards we travel to the historical town of Oberammergau, site of the decennial Passion Play, nestled in the Bavarian Alps. We return to Munich for dinner (on own) and overnight B L Mirabell Garden – © Tourismus Salzburg Thursday, September 15 Our final day of touring is highlighted by a visit to Berchtesgaden, site of the infamous “Eagle’s Nest” of Adolf Hitler during World War II. Berchtesgaden is a beautiful city nestled in the valley of the Watzmann mountains, with lake of Königsee in their shadow as well. We’ll enjoy lunch in Berchtesgaden and following lunch we’ll visit the salt mine, where dressed Linderhof Castle in miner’s clothing, you’ll enjoy rides in a train, a funicular, a raft and finally a slide into the salt mine.
