FERRANTE – KARPENCY VIE FOR PA STATE LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CROWN ON MAY 4TH AT HARRAHS IN CHESTER Plus the return of Victor Vasquez; A Heavyweight rematch between Campbell & Miranda; Dennis Hasson, Tyrone Crawley Jr. & Joey Tiberi FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CHESTER, PA (MARCH 21, 2012)—On Friday night May 4th, boxing returns to Harrahs in Chester, PA with a night of championship boxing that will be headlined by a potential toe to toe war between recent world title challenger Tommy Karpecy and Tony Ferrante. The ten round bout will be for the vacant Pennsylvania State Light Heavyweight title. The show is promoted by Joey Eye Boxing. Ferrante of Philadelphia has a record of 12-3 with seven knockouts and is coming off a ten round loss to former four time world title challenger Omar Sheika in what many are hailing as one of the best fights in Pennsylvania in recent years. In that fight, Sheika and Ferrante fought tooth and nail in a bout where both guys were battered and exchanged heavy shots throughout the fight. Ferrante landed some great shots but it wasn’t enough as Sheika applied pressure and outlasted the tough Ferrante and won by scores of 99-90, 99-90 and a better indicator of 95-94. Ferrante won his first nine professional bouts before dropping back to back bouts to Chuck Mussachio (15-1-2) and Ronson Frank (17-0). Ironically, Mussachio worked Ferrante’s corner for his bout against Sheika Karpency of Adah, Pennsylvania brings an impressive mark of 21-3 with fourteen knockouts. On February 25th, Karpency traveled to Cardiff, Wales to challenge undefeated and highly regarded WBO World Champion Nathan Cleverly for the world Light Heavyweight title. Although the scorecards all read 120-108 in favor of the champion, Karpency fought a spirited battle for which Cleverly called it his toughest title defense to date. The twenty-six year old Karpency went 11-0-1 in his first twelve bouts which included wins over Demetrius Davis and Etienne Whitaker. After losing a close decision to Rayco Saunders, Karpency won eight straight and picked up some titles on the process by stopping Cory Phelps (13-4-1) in two rounds to win the WBA Fedecentro Light Heavyweight title. He defended it once against undefeated and popular Chuck Mussachio (13-0-2). Karpency then traveled to Germany and dropped a competitive decision to highly ranked and undefeated Karo Murat (21-0) ---Murat is currently ranked #2 by the IBF and #8 by the WBO. Appearing in a six round co-feature will be exciting Lightweight Victor Vasquez. Vasquez of Philadelphia has a record of 14-6-1 with seven knockouts. Vasquez of Philadelphia has built up one of the biggest fan bases in Philadelphia due to his exciting style which always has him in the fight of the night whenever he steps into the ring. In his last bout, Vasquez put up a valiant effort before being stopped in seven by classy veteran Dorin Spivey (40-6) in a bout that was contested for the NABA Lightweight championship on February 4th in Atlantic City Vasquez and Angel Rios waged a back forth tussle that thrilled the fans at Harrahs in Chester as they Headline ROUND 4 with Vasquez winning an eight round majority decision that took place on August 12th, 2011 Vasquez was impressive in disposing of Gustavo Dailey (4-11) in round four to headline ROUND 3 at Harrahs in Chester on June 3rd, 2011 Vasquez waged a terrific back and forth war with Osnel Charles before dropping a six round majority decision as part as ROUND 1 at Harrah’s in Chester. He holds victories over undefeated Thomas McCuiston (1-0); Tyric Robinson (9-4-1) as well as an exciting six round split decision over Bryne Green (5-3) on October 8th in Philadelphia. Vasquez opponent will be named shortly. In a six round Heavyweight bout, Jamie Campbell (4-2, 2 KO’s) of Ridley Park, PA will look to even the score with William Miranda (5-4-1) of Allentown, PA in a rematch of their March 18, 2011 bout where Miranda, who was a last-minute replacement, scored a four round unanimous decision over Campbell. In a six round Light Heavyweight bout, Dennis Hasson (13-0, 5 KO’s) of Philadelphia will take on an opponent to be named. Fresh off his successful pro debut on February 24th at Harrahs in Chester, Tyrone Crawley Jr. (1- 0) will take on an opponent to be named in a Welterweight bout. Harrahs Chester favorite Joey Tiberi (7-1, 5 KO’s) will take part in a four round Lightweight bout against an opponent to be named.
