It replaced a former castle acquired by King Frederik II, hence the name of palace. The Frederiksborg Castle burned down in 1859. It was rebuilt and furnished as a museum, thanks to the founder of Carlsberg brewery, J.C. Jacobsen (1847). The Chapel Wing was spared when Frederiksborg Palace burned in 1859. The chapel consecrated in 1617 includes the Compenius organ. Built by Esaias Compenius in 1610, it is a German Renaissance organ, installed in 1617. It is the oldest organ in Denmark with 1,001 wooden pipes with a manually driven blower (original and preserved). The organ is decorated in ebony, ivory and silver. ‐ kongeligeslotte.dk/ ‐ mypipeorganhobby.blogspot.com The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark or National Church is also referred to as the Church of Denmark.
