Knights of Columbus October All Saints Council 11402 2020 Dunwoody, Georgia Volume 27 (Established July 4th, 1994) Issue 10 “Opere et Veritate” 1 John 3,18 Brothers, I look forward to our next Monthly Membership Meeting this Tuesday, October 6th . We will meet at McGivney in the parking lot and practice social seating with mask. Please plan on attending. The Rosary is at 7:00 PM and our business meeting follows at 7:30. Brother Steve Strong will also have the meeting available on line. The sign-on directions will be emailed to you. I hear there may be Grilled Bratwurst at the Meeting on Tuesday, weather permitting. We ask that if you have a Prayer Request for Good of the Order, email our Worthy Recorder before the October 6th meeting. Email: [email protected]. We want to make sure that we get the correct spelling and request info for the person in need of our prayers. I hope we can resume our normal Hall meetings in November. It will also be available on line. All Hands on Deck, we have scheduled our Pumpkin Off Load for this Saturday morning October 3rd. at 9:00 AM. We will require that all volunteers wear a mask. This is our only Fund Raiser for this year. Please plan on volunteering, bring the family to help, all are welcome. We will unload and place Pumpkins around the Church Campus. There will be an October monthly schedule sent to all via the SignupGenius computer app for all to sign up and help staff and sell our pumpkins. Our Chancellor, Brother Bill Driscoll is working on the new Degree Exemplification Ceremony at McGivney. If you are currently a First Degree member, this is your chance to move up to the 3rd Degree. All three degrees are now combined. Bill will announce the date and times when the Degree Team is ready for the Ceremony. If you are suffering from cabin fever and are itching for some fresh air and sun, two upcoming golf tournaments are detailed in this edition. The Assistance League of Atlanta (ALA) tournament at the beautiful Bears Best Course is on October 19th and the Monsignor Kiernan Memorial Golf Tournament is on November 16th as well. Vivat Jesus, Brother Woody Meet Your New Chancellor– Bill Driscoll We all know Sir Knight Bill Driscoll from years of activities and awards, but now he is a council officer—-Worthy Chancellor. Prior to his recent election to that post, he served as the Program Director and kept our events hopping. Now he will be overseeing the recruitment and retention teams. Shown are Debbie, Jocelyn, and Bill as the family-of-the-year for 2018. Meet Your New Program Director– Mike Haslach You may not know Sir Knight Mike Haslach, 58, as well, but he has been a council member and a Fr. Charles Watters Assembly member in good standing for many years. The Haslachs look mighty young, but he and wife Roxanne have been married for 22 years and have two children, Max graduated from St. Pius and is at Georgia State. Their daughter Sophia is a senior at St. Pius. He is a first time chairman and takes over for Bill Driscoll as Program Director and gets to have many balls flying in the air at the same time. We are delighted that he has stepped up to this crucial position. Meet Your New Faith Chairman– Dave Emery Sir Knight Dave Emery is a brother who has run many programs behind the scenes without an official title. Now he has one—Faith Chairman. After running or seriously aiding Assembly golf tournaments, council retreats, novena rosaries, clothing collections, Remembrance Masses, etc., This former Knight-of-the-Month now has an 2 official title to bring him out of the shadows. We are grateful for his wonderful service to the Order. 2 All Saints’ New District Deputy, Tom Frizzi 3 Wife Peggy and Tom Frizzi, our new district Deputy. See page 9 for his impressive Knight history resume. Council Takes Business Outdoors Again Getting tired of being cooped up? Our Tuesday September 1st Council Business Meeting was again by held outdoors in the McGivney parking lot, as we did successfully in June. Chairs and tables got moved out from the hall. Rosary was at 7 PM and meeting was just after 7:30. The weather was nice, and masks and appropriate distancing were required. The meeting was telecast online by Deputy Grand Knight Steve Strong as well. Pizza and beverages were provided for attendees. Our new District Deputy Tom Frizzi was in attendance and spoke. With two successful outdoor meetings under our belt, we hope that you now feel safe to drop by give to some of your brothers an elbow handshake and have a brew. We hope for an October repeat. 4 3 4 Paul Weidle is Knight-of-Month After months of online meetings, we were finally blessed to have Brother Paul Weidle present to be awarded a long overdue Knight-of-the-Month award. His citation is below. 5 5 Fr. McGivney Beatification Date Set at Hdqtrs. After waiting and praying by KofC members for well over 100 years, our founder, Fr. Michael J. McGivney, is finally taking another giant step toward sainthood. His first miracle was accepted and he will be beatified in Connecticut on October 31st, 2020. Please continue praying for his eventual sainthood. He moves from “Venerable” to “Blessed”. 6 6 Watters Assembly Awards Dual Chalices It is a beautiful thing when everything comes together, and that is exactly what happened on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at the 9 AM mass at St. Brigid Catholic Church. Our Fr. Charles J. Watters fourth degree Assembly 2688 awarded two Mass chalices to two new diocesan priests. Sir Knights Bob Mitchell, Ed Pierson, and Nick Mattera participated in the ceremonies. St. Brigid pastor, Fr. Neil Herlihy concelebrated mass with Fr. Cristian Cossio, their new Parochial Vicar, and Fr. Miller Gomez Ruiz, new Parochial Vicar at Prince of Peace in Flowery Branch. After Mass, with Fr. Neil’s permission to use their sanctuary, our Faithful Navigator, Bob Mitchell, spoke about the extraordinary double chalice presentation on behalf of our Watters Assembly. Our Ed Pierson presented the first chalice to Fr. Miller Gomez Ruiz honoring our deceased SK Edward J. Trainor, SK Don L. Myers, and SK Richard T. Szyperski. The second chalice was presented to Fr. Cristian Cossio by our Faithful Captain, Nick Mattera, honoring our beloved deceased Fr. Daniel J. McCormick. Our Faithful Pilot, Jon Bird, took photos after the presentation and posted them on Google Photos. Also attending were Ed Trainor’s son, John Trainor, his wife, Heather, and his son Jack Trainor. It just happened to be the wedding anniversary of Ed and Colleen Trainor. Newly-minted Father Cristian Cossio, St. Brigid Pastor Neil Herlihy, and also new Father Miller Gomez Ruiz hold their engraved chalices. In back row are Sir Knights Ed Pierson, Nick Mattera, and Bob Mitchell. 7 8 8 New Council Insurance Field Agent We are pleased to report that a new Field Agent has been appointed to serve Council 11402 at All Saints. Please welcome Steven Zahradka as your Member Benefits Advisor. Steven is one of our newer advisors and looks forward to serving the members of your council. He brings much experience and can help assisting you in recruiting efforts as well. Please look forward to hearing from Steven soon. His contact information is: [email protected] Our New District Deputy, Tom Frizzi It was recently announced that our new All Saints District Deputy was Thomas Frizzi, replacing Sir Knight John Knight whose four-year term ended recently. Frizzi is well known to Georgia knights as the Former District Master of the Fourth Degree in Georgia. He has appeared at All Saints Meetings in the past and even installed our Watters Assembly Officers. He lives in Lilburn. He has held other important state offices such as Membership Director, Community Director, State Photographer, and Treasurer of the Georgia Charities. We welcome him in this important role and have already begun working with him. He attended our September council meeting and spoke. 9 His contact information is shown on our officer page. Parish Habitat Home #27 Although the parish habitat home #27 is being built by contractors rather than parish ministries because of Covid-19 fears, several of our brother knights are still involved. Notably, Sir Knight Mike Will ran the financial campaign and Sir Knight Jon Bird took pictures. Our clergy, knights all, will bless the finished structure. Because the contractors are working on several houses at once, this build will take twelve weeks rather than the normal seven. The house is not yet complete. Here is recent progress. Next newsletter will show completion. 10 10 11 11 Monday, October 19 12 12 Monday, October 19 13 MOQ Plans Second Msgr. Kiernan Golf Event Our council 11402 brother, Sir Knight Msgr, R. Donald Kiernan, was not only the pastor of All Saints for 26 years, but he was the first Administrator of Mary Our Queen in Peachtree Corners when it was still a mission and not yet a parish. Mary Our Queen has a Kiernan Hall just the same as All Saints, and he is revered there also.
