Shri Narendra Modi Hon’ble Prime Minister NEW RAILWAYS NEW UTTAR PRADESH (2014- May’2021) PREFACE oday entire world is facing an unprecedented challenge to humanity by invisible Corona Virus. Enormity of this crisis can be accessed from the fact that the country had to be locked down to Tcontain the spread of virus and to strengthen our infrastructure to fight Covid-19. However, Indian Railways, the national transporter not only maintained essential transport of passengers and goods during this crisis but also rose to the occasion and ventured in new fields like making isolation coaches, Covid-19 hospitals, Coveralls etc. and Railway men and women continue to work tirelessly in accordance with the clarion call given by Hon'ble Prime Minister for Aatm Nirbhar Bharat. Indian Railways undertook the mammoth exercise of transporting oxygen to various locations during the second wave of Covid-19. Indian Railways brought more than 3000 MT LMO from various production sites to Uttar Pradesh by the mid of May-2021. In order to contribute significantly the health infrastructure of Indian Railways in the state of Uttar Pradesh has also been strengthened through desired inputs. Vaccination drive has also been taken up at vaccination centres opened in various Railway Hospitals and health units not only for Railway staff but for all fellow countrymen. Apart from it, to ensure that there is no dearth of essential goods in any part of the country food grains were loaded from different stations of Uttar Pradesh during ongoing Covid-19 crisis. 53% of New Delhi - Howrah and 20% of New Delhi - Chennai, two strategically most important routes of Indian Railways with line capacity utilization of around 150% falls in Uttar Pradesh. Sectional speed of Ghaziabad-Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Jn. and Palwal- Mathura sections falling in state of Uttar Pradesh has been upgraded to 130 Kmph and works are underway to make these sections fit for 160 kmph train operations. The longest stretch of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor is being constructed in Uttar Pradesh from Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Jn. to Ghaziabad with work underway on war footage. 325 kms stretch of EDFC between Bhaupur-Khurja lying entirely in Uttar Pradesh has already been commissioned. Railway has a history of more than 160 years in the state and has the highest route kilometers - 9100 route kilometers - within it, which is 14% of the entire railway network. Efforts for further development of railway infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh have been intensified in last seven years with 461% more average annual investment in comparison to previous years. Results of such a massive investment are becoming visible with enhanced infrastructure and modern passenger amenities. Soon the era of congestion and inconvenience will be matter of gone days and a new Railway equipped with state-of-the-art facilities will be able to serve the citizens in a better manner and provide them enhanced value for their money. In this booklet, we have compiled the important contributions and achievements of Indian Railways in the development of the Uttar Pradesh in last six years. I hope that it will serve as a handbook for those keen to know about the role of Railways in the development of the most populous state of the Nation. It may be noted that the budgets allocated to various projects are not apportioned State wise but reflect the cost & allocation for the project.
