He is a professor emeritus at the University of Washington. William L. Adams Literary Author (Playwright) Locale: Oregon Biography: William L. Adams (1821-1906) was a playwright who lived in Oregon. His play, "Strategems, and Spoils, A Melodrame in Five Acts" was published in The Oregonian in 1952. Sherman Alexie Literary Author; Filmmaker Locale: Washington Biography: Sherman Alexie (born 1966) is a Spokane-Coeur d'Alene novelist, author of short stories, poet, and filmmaker from Wellpinit, Washington. Alexie grew up on the Spokane Indian Reservation and now lives in Seattle. Angela Allen Literary Author Locale: Oregon Biography: Angela Allen is a writer, journalist, and photographer from Portland, Oregon. Alps held an M.F.A. from the University of Washington. Ada Woodruff Anderson Literary Author Locale: Washington Biography: Ada Woodruff Anderson (1860-1956) was a novelist who lived in Seattle, Washington. Anderson is known for her stories about the Northwest. Guy Anderson Artist (Painter) Locale: Washington Biography: Guy Anderson (1906-1998) was a painter from Edmonds, Washington. Anderson was associated with the Northwest School of artists. Jeannette C. Armstrong Literary Author Locale: British Columbia Biography: Jeannette Armstrong (born 1948) is an author, educator, artist, and activist from the Okanagan Reserve in British Columbia. Her 1985 work Slash is considered the first novel by a First Nations woman in Canada. Armstrong holds the appointment of Canada Research Chair in Okanagan Indigenous Knowledge and Philosophy. Armstrong also writes young adult fiction. Lloyd R. Arnold Literary Author Locale: Idaho Biography: Lloyd R. Arnold (1906-1970) was a writer who lived in Ketchum, Idaho. Arnold was a friend of Ernest Hemmingway, and his book details his life and relationship with Hemmingway. Arnold is buried in Ketchum, Idaho, near Hemmingway's grave. Axelrod is a Professor of English and Writing at Eastern Oregon University. Harold Balazs Artist (Sculptor) Locale: Washington Biography: Harold Balazs (born 1928) was an American sculptor and artist from Mead, Washington whose work has been featured in exhibits and public art installations throughout the Northwestern United States. He is known for his abstract metal sculptures. F. H. Balch Literary Author Locale: Oregon Biography: F. H. Balch (1861-1891) was a novelist from Lebanon, Oregon who wrote about life in Oregon and the West. He died of tuberculosis at age 29. Mary Barnard Literary Author (Poet) Locale: Washington Biography: Mary Barnard was an American poet, biographer and Greek-to-English translator from Vancouver, WA. Barnard was mentored by Ezra Pound through correspondance, after she mailed him several of her poems. Kim Barnes Literary Author Locale: Idaho Biography: Kim Barnes (born 1958) is a novelist and essayist from Lewiston, Idaho. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Montana. Jacqueline Barnett Artist (Painter) Locale: Washington Biography: "Jacqueline Barnett is a recognized abstract artist represented by IMA Gallery of Seattle (previously with Francine Seders Gallery and Foster/White Gallery).
