We began it with the blessed Christmas holidays, the New Year’s celebration, and completed the month with the St. Sava Program. For the first time in the history of our parish, we hosted the Diocesan Assembly in February proving to be a successfully organized and hosted event. This past year was marked by an increase in the Sunday School and Serbian School Programs. Much gratitude is owed to the volunteer teachers and students who dedicate their time and energy in preparing and attending the classes regularly. Besides these classes, a basketball club meets on Thursdays. The cultural aspect of our church life has also been quite active during this period. Many artists and singers have visited our parish including: Merima Njegomir, Miroslav Ilic, Slavica Momakovic, and the Balkan Trio among others. It is important to note that the play, “Jazavac pred sudom”, performed by actors from Serbia and the Republic of Srpska lead by Petar Kralj displayed an amazing production for the first time in the Boston area. His Grace Bishop Mitrophan visited our parish twice during the year and Bishop Atanasije (Jevtic) was also our guest. Other visitors to our parish were Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Bozidar Djelic and the Minister of the Diaspora, Milica Cubrilo. 7 Our Serbian Festival, once again, proved that we can gather hundreds of parishioners as well as New Englanders. With a rich musical program, lovely photo exhibit, and amazing food, all in attendance had a reason to be happy. The Donators Evening in November proved to be the most successful evening to date raising over $60,000 for our mortgage. The Gracanica Folklore Ensemble performed for the festival and the fundraising evening adding much to the ambiance of both events. The St. Petka Circle of Serbian Sisters again showed their support for our church through their work for most of the events that were organized throughout the year. Besides their local activities, they organized a fundraiser for several orphanages in Serbia which were highly successful (see article about Kolo). The maintenance and beautification of our church, hall, and grounds was also a priority this year. Thanks to all of you who gave countless hours of your time prepping and painting the outside windows. The two classrooms were also painted and a library has been set-up in one of them. All the broken windows in the church hall were replaced and about 15 storm windows were installed on the church level. The stone stairs around the entire church were power washed. Around 30 volunteers donated their time from April to November helping to upkeep the church yard. For all of the good our parish has received in the year 2007, we are grateful to God and St. Sava.
