R. Williams, Albert Jonas, G. H. Baker, G. Frank Otis. COMPILER, J, F. Lennon. ithaca, n. y.: Norton & Conklin, Publishers, Directory Publishing House. 1878. 9421 Introductory. We will briefly and respectfully state, upon presenting this work to the public, that it has been our special aim to issue a really valuable and meritorious Directory. A work of this character never was, nor ever will be, perfect. It is almost a matter of impossibility considering the general sources of gathering material, the changes actually going on during the compilation, and the thousands of names to be handled by the several departments to prevent some errors occurring in a work of this character ; and a just and appreciative public should not criticize too severely. None but those experi enced can conceive the extent of difficulties pertaining to directory material and work. Appreciating and viewing all these facts in the right direction, we engaged persons of well known intelligence and ability, and who had a thorough knowledge of our city generally, to canvass for the work. Giving all the above points a due consideration, we feel fruit," safe in making the statement that this, our "first will pass favorably the severe inspection which it will be subject ed to. " It is our aim to retain and hold a permanent Directory House," Publishing and to enable us to accomplish what we desire, we shall spare no expense, time or trouble to bring into requisition every effort bearing favorably upon the en terprise. " " We thank the press for their valuable (?) support, the public for courtesies extended, and our friends for their liberal patronage. Respectfully, NORTON & CONKLIN.
