It provides a detailed account of the progress the school has made to provide high quality educational opportunities for all students, as set out in the school plan. School context Boggabilla Central School is part of the Connected Communities strategy and sits on Kamilaroi country. Our school of 85 students from Preschool to Year 12 can be found in North West New South Wales on the Queensland border, on 44 beautiful acres near the MacIntyre River. The majority of our students are drawn from the communities of Boggabilla and Toomelah, 98% of students are of Aboriginal heritage. We are a vibrant learning community with committed staff using cutting edge technology to achieve improved student outcomes. Year 11 and Year 12 students are part of the Northern Borders Senior Access Program (NBSA), with many subjects being delivered by video conferencing. The school has a well established School Reference Group and the school works in partnership with the local Toomelah/Boggabilla AECG to achieve the best learning outcomes for our students. Self-assessment and school achievement Self-assessment using the School Excellence Framework This section of the Annual Report outlines the findings from self–assessment using the School Excellence Framework, school achievements and the next steps to be pursued. This year, our school undertook self–assessment using the School Excellence Framework. The framework supports public schools throughout NSW in the pursuit of excellence by providing a clear description of high quality practice across the three domains of Learning, Teaching and Leading. Learning: The school's on–balance judgement indicates that we are currently delivering: Expectations of behaviour are explicitly taught to students and relate to the variety of school settings such as classroom, playground, hallways, canteen and assemblies. School programs address the needs of identified student groups (e.g. Aboriginal students). Attendance rates are regularly monitored and action is taken promptly to address issues with individual students. Curriculum provision meets community needs and expectations and provides equitable academic opportunities. The school has an effective plan for student transitions in place.Curriculum delivery integrates technology, library and information services. The school provides a range of extra–curricular offerings for student development. The school leadership team regularly uses data to inform key decisions. Executive, staff, faculty/stage, team and other meetings are used to review the curriculum and to revise teaching and learning programs. Staff regularly evaluate teaching and learning programs including the assessment of student outcomes. Teachers understand and implement professional standards and curriculum requirements. Staff attainment of professional learning goals and teaching requirements are part of the school’s performance and development processes. Teachers are committed to their ongoing development as members of the teaching profession. Leading: The school's on–balance judgement indicates that we are currently delivering: Parents and community members have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of school–related activities. The school community is positive about educational provision. The school is committed to the development of leadership skills in staff and students. Links exist with communities of schools, other educational providers and other organisations to support the school’s programs. Staff, students, parents and the broader school community are welcomed and engaged, when possible, in the development of the vision, values and purpose for the school. The three–year school plan has annual iterations focused on achieving identified improvements. The school plan aligns to local and system priorities and ensures responsiveness to emerging needs.The school acknowledges and celebrates a wide diversity of student, staff and community achievements. Our self–assessment process will assist the school to refine our school plan, leading to further improvements in the delivery of education to our students. Overall summary of progress Boggabilla Central School has a very well developed P–12 cultural program that incorporates language, art, dance and traditional perspectives and support by community is strengthening. The school has continued to address the wellbeing needs of the whole school community through the establishment of KidsMatter, continuation of PBL, wellbeing programs and the appointment of a 0.5 Wellbeing Teacher and a Head Teacher Wellbeing. Staff have participated in training in KidsMatter in order to support students. Progress towards achieving improvement measures Improvement measures Funds Expended Progress achieved this year (to be achieved over 3 years) (Resources) 100% of staff clearly understand PBL $ 3 765 All staff in 2017 participated in Positive Behaviour and implement school Positive for Learning (PBL) professional development Behaviour for Learning and LaS $19 716 sessions, run by the PBL team. Two staff members Learning & Support procedures. also completed the PBL: Classroom Systems of Support Training and began developing an action plan for implementing PBL further into the classrooms. The PBL team used data from Sentral on a 5 weekly basis to analyse the effectiveness of the PBL system within the school and to create social skills lessons targeting specific behaviours. The 2017 PBL team consists of teaching and non–teaching staff. An increase in the school's Breakfast Club $ 10 778 ACARA attendance rates indicate the average attendance rate from 70% to attendance for 2017 was 72.8%. 75%. Next Steps Positive Behaviour for Learning Implement PBL in the classroom, review our PBL system and create a PBL action plan. School Attendance To implement a Community Cooking program for families to provide adequate food for school lunches and family meals. Offer incentives when opportunities arise – regional and interstate sporting events, School Spectacular and other extra–curricular activities. Implement a Connected Communities Learning Centre class and offer an alternate learning program. The program will support students to transition to mainstream classes. In addition, the Learning Centre will offer Stage 6 one to one tutorial opportunities and homework support. Culture Programs Create Culture Week programs at the end of each term to provide additional opportunities i.e. camping, visits on country, wall mural painting. Combine lingo and art programs in same instructional class.
