A circular route that can be joined where you wish. Have a navigator following the route directions! 14 miles. Must see Wells are probably: Malvhina, Elgar's Enigma, Rose Gully, Davenham House Wellhead, Earl Beauchamp's Spout, Hayslad, Evendine Spring, Malt House Spring, Wynds Point, Pixies Well, Holywell, Lower Wyche Spout & Weaver's Trough. But they are all good and this is written before they are dressed. To follow the route on your gps phone see www.malvernwelldressing.co.uk and download "1. AroundTheHills.kml" file, some of it's tracks have deviations, so follow it sensibly. th th A 5 day well comes down on Wednesday 8 May , 9 day comes down on Sunday 12 May . Park up on or near Bellevue for the first 3 Wells, Malvinha and Elgar's Enigma are both on Belle Vue Island. If there is nowhere to park do these 3 at the end of the tour. 1: 33 - Malvhina Dan and Karen Smith, 9 day, Adult Well A Celtic sculpture by artist Rose Garrard on Belle Vue Island in the town center. Spring water may be collected here. Dressed twice a year (also in July for the Malvern-in-Bloom competition). Also on Bellevue Island, the North end. 2: 12 - Elgar's Enigma Malvern School of Art, 5 day, Adult Well A town center sculpture by artist Rose Garrard which commemorates Elgar's enigmatic friends. A windy, difficult site to dress but worth the effort because of its position. The dressing area has now expanded as the Art Schools becomes more ambitious.. Ascend Bellevue Island to the Pelican Lights, Cross, Turn Right and take the entry just past W.H. Smiths to the courtyard in front of "bewater". There is Old Bottling Works Spring and buy a delightful water bottle in the works. 3: 38 - Old Bottling Works Spring bewater, 9 day, Adult Well In "bewater"'s yard in the town centre. A delightful mossy grotto that responds nicely to dressing with foliage and flowers. This was where Burrows water was bottled. Back in car. Drive to the bewater entry and turn Right onto Edith Walk, descend and turn Left as though going to Waitrose, but before the up ramp turn Right onto Back Lane track. 100 yards to Rose Gully. 4: 43 - Rose Gully Holly Mount Church, 5 day, Adult Well In Back Lane (below Waitrose car park) this was re-constructed when Waitrose was built in 2000. Three spouts (of surface water) and a pool so plenty of scope for a large work of art. Continue down the bumpy and narrow Back Lane, Go Left on Zetland Road, Immediately Right on Bank Street. At the bottom the Entrance to Ivy House is opposite. Park up on Moorlands Road and walk the drive through the gates to the House Front. 5: 23 - Ivy House Pump Sarah & Steph, 9 day, Adult Well An ornamental pump on the drive in front of Ivy House, a pretty pump in a pretty location. Rick Move the Car 30 yards down to Graham Road, or just walk to Graham Road, turn Right and cross over. There are the Gates to Davenham House. Walk the Drive and see the Welhead to the Left of the porch. 6: 08 - Davenham House Wellhead Grange Farm Nursery, 9 day, Adult Well Davenham House Wellhead is a splendid bronze structure in the grounds of Davenham retirement home on Graham Road. A roomy, safe site with plenty of scope for big ideas. Turn the Car around and go back up Moorlands Road. At Worcester Road turn Left, go straight through the Traffic Lights and take the next Right Turn, it is sharp, onto North Malvern Road. Pull over just beyond Lodge Drive for the Fountain. 7: 51 - Stocks Drinking Fountain Petals Flower Shop, 9 day, Adult Well A now dry cast iron drinking fountain stands by the road near the old punishment stocks at the bottom of North Malvern Road. It lends itself to a nice flower arrangement or there is space here for a large artwork. Continue along North Malvern Road till the Clock Tower, you won't miss it. 8: 03 - Clock Tower Malvern Vale Primary School, 9 day, Childrens Well A prominent landmark on the North Malvern Road with flowing water. The water-chamber provides opportunity for a delightful grotto, with flowers spilling out through the gates. Stay parked for North Malvern Tap. st 9: 37 - North Malvern Tap 1 Malvern Link Brownies and Rainbows, 9 day, Childrens Well A brick affair looking remarkably like a fireplace, behind the Clock Tower. Looks good with a Derbyshire-style board in it. A nice safe site to work with children. A worthwhile diversion is Earl Beauchamp's Spout. Take the first Right down Belvoir Bank and Left onto Cowleigh Road. The Spout is out of town, just before the end of the speed restriction. Drive just beyond the Spout and park in Car Park on the Left. 10: 11 - Earl Beauchamp's Spout Barbara Meddows, 9 day, Adult Well A brick and tile structure beside the Cowleigh Road. Used to be a regular water-collection point till the bacterial count got too high. A previous Gold Rosette winner, too. Don't miss it. Return almost to the Clock Tower and go up Belvoir Bank but turn Right onto West Malvern Road. Go gently along this road as with many roads in Malvern, the parked cars often neck it down to one lane. Drive 1 mile to Westminster Bank turn Left onto it and park before the "No Access" sign and walk 100 yards up to the Well. 11: 62 - Westminster Bank Spring Hartigan Arts, 5 day, Not Judged Well Although St James School has moved over the hill, the girls have decorated this site previously. This year we have a lovely new dresser. A network of pipes and tanks manage now to provide only a trickle of water. Back in car, continue 150 yards along West Malvern Road to St James's Church. The Spout is by the East end of the Church, under the Road. 12: 48 - St James's Churchyard Spout Gwyn Klee, 5 day, Adult Well Only stagnant water now in this hole-in-the-wall but it lends itself to religious ideas and is a safe place to work. Visit Roget's (Thesaurus) grave nearby. Continue another 150 yards along West Malvern Road to West Malvern Tap on your Left. 13: 56 - West Malvern Tap St James' Primary School, 9 day, Childrens Well Don't miss this large feature near the church, dressed each year in spectacular fashion. Good Malvern springwater may be collected here. Continue 80 yards to Park Road, take the Right turn and about 50 yards down on the Left is Park Road Spout. nd 14: 39 - Park Road Spout 2 Malvern Scout Group - Beaver Scouts, 5 day, Childrens Well A roadside spout, now long dry. All that remains is the stone banked recess with a small tree growing from it. Rick Return to West Malvern Road, turn Right and drive for 3/4 mile, leaving the village boundary till you reach Hayslad. 15: 20 - Hayslad Mother Gaia, 9 day, Adult Well People come in their 4x4s from as far as Portsmouth to collect water here! Beside the West Malvern to Wyche Cutting Road. Beautifully dressed, previously by children and blessed by Druids. Must see! Continue for 700 yards to 2 Stoneywell House on your Left and in the wall, there is the Well, opposite the car park. 16: 45 - Royal Well Icarus, 5 day, Not Judged Well On the West Malvern Road near Wyche Cutting there was once a large Spa Hall and grounds. Privately owned but publicly sited. Difficult to collect the water. Gives a new meaning to 'hole-in-the-wall'. Drive to the Wyche Cutting, turn Right onto Walwyn Road. Park when you can on the Right. The spring is there 50 yards down from the Bus Shelter and before the Geopark Café. 17: 60 - Wyche Spring Grove Primary School, 5 day, Childrens Well On a grassy tump where West Malvern Road leaves Wyche Cutting this spout is now dry but once supplied a drinking trough for animals. A picturesque site that is dressed regularly. Continue down 140 yards and on the Left by a track entry is the spring. 18: 58 - Willow Spring Little Berry, 9 day, Adult Well Water-cure patients used this spring beside Walwyn (Colwall) Road when it was shaded by a willow tree. Now regularly dressed by locals who still value it, though it only trickles now. Continue down and take the Left onto Chase Road. Go past the Chase Inn and after a sharp Right bend you will see the cute Box Cottage on your Right. The Well is a hole in the verge opposite it. 19: 34 - Moorall's Well Box Cottage, 9 day, Not Judged Well This hole in the verge is an ancient spring, mapped in 1633, it has the same water as Holywell. Box Cottage opposite was built in 1740 as a healing bath house. Dressed for the first time in 2019. Rick Continue for perhaps 200 yards and on your Right is the spring, 80 yards before the Kettle Sings Tea Rooms Drive 20: 16 - Gardiners Common Spring Thomas Gardiner's descendants, 9 day, Adult Well A manhole cover protects the spring, on the edge of Gardiners Common in a pretty hazel copse.
