Time spent with Jeeves and Bertie is always funBy CustomerThese Jeeves and Bertie Wooster stories are a delight. Whenever Bertie gets himself into trouble, Jeeves is always there to straighten things out. From troublesome younger cousins of Bertie's to Bertie's Aunts to forceful young women who want to form Bertie before and after marriage, Jeeves smoothly helps Bertie escape all traps. Jeeves and Bertie may not always agree on haberdashery, but in the end the young master's life returns to tranquility thanks to his faithful butler and valet.Bertie's antics and Jeeves' sang froid can brighten the greyest day.A friend from work introduced me to the works of P.G. Wodehouse several years ago. I have enjoyed them ever since.Once a person discovers what fun there is in reading about Jeeves and Bertie, I recommend moving on to the Blandings Castle and Psmith stories.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. How many stars are allowed?By Donald. S.Someone once said that criticising PGWodehouse was like taking a spade to a souffle. That about sums it up. People from George Will to Christopher Hitchens love him.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Puts the World RightBy BeausunI read Wodehouse when the insomnia takes over each night, usually starting between 2 and 3 am. Usually settles my mind within 20 minutes or so. Puts the world right as rain, settles the soul, calms the heart, and I can sleep again. Happy times, problems solved. P. S. My next robot will be a Jeeves. The twelve stories in this book are all about Wodehousersquo;s most beloved characters, Bertie Wooster and Jeeves, with the original illustrations by A. Wallace Mills. The Inimitable Jeeves was Wodehousersquo;s second book that included stories about Jeeves and the first that was made up exclusively of Jeeves stories. (In the first, My Man Jeeves, Jeeves was a character in only half the stories.) The stories collected in the book were published in 1921 and 1922 in the Strand magazine in Britain and in the Saturday Evening Post and Cosmopolitan in the United States. Some of the stories were turned into two stories when they were collected in book form, and this book includes a key identifying the magazine stories that were broken up in this way. This edition reproduces the stories as they appeared in the Strand magazine, allowing todayrsquo;s reader to experience these stories in the same way their earliest readers did. Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse (1881-1975) was an English humorist who wrote novels, short stories, plays, poems, and lyrics for musical comedies. He was immensely successful with the public and was also admired by writers such as Rudyard Kipling, Hilaire Belloc, and Evelyn Waugh. Today, he is remembered mainly for his writings about Jeeves and about Blandings Castle. About this Series Heritage Facsimile Editions are reproductions of classic works of literature as they first appeared in illustrated magazines. In the days before electronic media, illustrated magazines were one of the most common forms of popular entertainment, filled with stories and serialized novels. The illustrations were a key part of the readerrsquo;s experience. There was a delay before these stories and novels were published in book form, to give people an incentive to subscribe to the magazines. The books generally kept down costs by omitting the illustrations. This series publishes the books using facsimiles of the magazine articles, including the original illustrations. You should read Wodehouse when you re well, and when you re poorly; when you re travelling, and when you re not; when you re feeling clever, and when you re feeling utterly dim. Wodehouse always lifts your spirits, no matter how high they happen to be already. --Lynne Truss"You don t analyze such sunlit perfection, you just bask in its warmth and splendor. --Stephen Fry"Wodehouse s idyllic world can never stale. He will continue to release future generations from captivity that may be more irksome than our own. He has made a world for us to live in and delight in. --Evelyn Waugh"Wodehouse is the funniest writer that is, the most resourceful and unflagging deliverer of fun that the human race, a glum crowd, has yet produced.
