The Core welcomes thousands of people each month all busily engrossed in a multitude of purposes in this community building. Some are reading, studying, some proudly registering their babies whilst elsewhere others may be getting advice, using a PC or tracing their family tree. All are blissfully unaware that downstairs hundreds of people may be wildly applauding a Theatre show, whilst some are learning new dance steps in the Studio at the same time as toddlers are learning rhymes in the Children’s Library. This fantastic building is crammed with people doing things, who rub along nicely next to other people doing their own thing too! Long may this Core experience continue. Born in Russia in 1888, Berlin escaped to America aged 4, becoming a singing waiter at 14, writing his first mega hit Alexander’s Ragtime Band in 1912 and became a star. Berlin wrote mega hits for over seventy years for great singers like Bing Crosby, 5 Fred Astaire, Ethel Merman.
