Through this popular publication, we are happy to provide the public with information on historically significant locations for special events of all kinds. This new edition provides expanded information on previously listed properties, as well as many new listings. All listings in the publication include information about accessibility. The Massachusetts Historical Commission was established by the legislature in 1963 to identify, evaluate, and protect significant historic properties in the Commonwealth. These properties are not only unique settings for special events, but are also vital parts of our diverse cultural landscape. Private event rentals are an important source of revenue for historic properties, as they help to provide the necessary funds to preserve and maintain these structures. The availability of historic properties for various functions makes the rich heritage of Massachusetts accessible to the public. It is with great pleasure that we offer this resource as a means of promoting awareness of the availability of these remarkable properties for event rentals. The information contained herein is collected by means of questionnaires and phone interviews, and has not been fully verified through site visits. If you encounter information that is inaccurate or outdated, please notify our office. Likewise, if you know of a historic property available for function rentals that is not currently listed, please contact us. Should you have questions regarding the information included here, we encourage you to call these establishments directly. We hope you find this publication useful as you consider historic properties for your important function. Thank you for your support of historic preservation in Massachusetts.
