Conference games still tied after a five-minute 5-on-5 overtime advance to a five-minute 3-on-3 overtime (and sudden victory shootout if still tied) with the team that wins the second overtime/shootout receiving an extra point in the standings (3/SW in the standings). A 3-on-3 overtime or shootout win then is worth two points in the standings while the team that loses the 3-on-3 overtime/shootout receives just one point for the tie. The 3-on-3 overtime and shootouts only affect conference standings while the game is officially a tie for NCAA purposes. Friday’s HigHligHts and notes Saturday, Oct. 31 Schedule • The third season of National Collegiate Hockey Conference play No. 5/5 Denver at No. 8/7 Boston University, 4:00 p.m. ET opened Friday night with three conference match-ups. In the first game of *No. 2/1 Omaha at Western Michigan, 7:00 p.m. ET the night, Western Michigan handed No. 2/1 Omaha its first loss of the sea- son with a 4-2 victory in Kalamazoo. In two of the three games, the team No. 7/8 UMass Lowell at No. 6/6 Minnesota Duluth, 7:07 p.m. CT picked lower in the NCHC Preseason Poll won, as No. 14/13 St. Cloud State *No. 15/14 Miami at No. 14/13 St. Cloud State, 7:07 p.m. CT (sixth in poll) blanked No. 15/14 Miami (fifth in poll), 3-0. No. 1/2 North *No. 1/2 North Dakota at Colorado College, 7:37 p.m. MT Dakota defeated Colorado College on the road to remain the only unbeaten NCHC team. Friday, Oct. 30 reSultS • In non-conference action, NCHC teams went 1-1 against Hockey East at No. 4/4 Boston College 4, No. 5/5 Denver 3 foes as No. 6/6 Minnesota Duluth edged No. 7/8 UMass Lowell, 2-1, while No. 4/4 Boston College nipped No. 5/5 Denver, 4-3. The NCHC is now *at Western Michigan 4, No. 2/1 Omaha 2 25-15-6 in non-conference play (.609), which is second best among all at No. 6/6 Minnesota Duluth 2, No. 7/8 UMass Lowell 1 conferences, but is just 5-8-4 against Hockey East teams this season. *at No. 14/13 St. Cloud State 3, No. 15/14 Miami 0 • SCSU junior goalie Charlie Lindgren pitched his fourth shutout of the *No. 1/2 North Dakota 5, at Colorado College 2 season (in six games) Friday, making 15 saves against the RedHawks. His four whitewashes lead the NCAA, while he ranks in the top 10 in GAA (1.50/seventh) and save percentage (.941/10th). Friday, NOv. 6 • SCSU freshman forward Patrick Newell scored the first two goals of his collegiate career in Friday’s win over Miami. His first career goal was *Western Michigan at No. 15/14 Miami, 7:35 p.m. ET also the game-winning goal. *No. 6/6 Minnesota Duluth at No. 2/1 Omaha, 7:07 p.m. CT • In WMU’s win over Omaha, junior forward Aaron Hadley scored his TV: FOX College Sports first collegiate goal in his 48th career game. It was just the second point of Wisconsin at No. 1/2 North Dakota, 7:37 p.m. CT his career as well and first since an assist on Dec. 13, 2013. The Broncos *Colorado College at No. 5/5 Denver, 7:36 p.m. MT win over the Mavericks marked WMU’s first win over a No. 1 ranked team since Feb. 25, 2012 -- a 3-0 win at then No. 1 Ferris State. • North Dakota’s 5-2 win over Colorado College marked UND’s fourth Saturday, NOv. 7 win by a 5-2 score this season in just seven games. All five goals Friday for *Western Michigan at No. 15/14 Miami, 8:00 p.m. ET UND came from freshmen, led by two from forward Chris Wilkie, marking *No. 6/6 Minnesota Duluth at No. 2/1 Omaha, 7:07 p.m. CT his first collegiate multi-goal game. UND freshman forward Rhett Gardner Wisconsin at No. 1/2 North Dakota, 7:07 p.m. CT scored his first career goal in the win, which came short-handed, while *No. 5/5 Denver at Colorado College, 7:07 p.m. MT freshman defenseman Christian Wolanin handed out two assists, the first two assists of his collegiate career and his third point in his last two games. * National Collegiate Hockey Conference game • In Minnesota Duluth’s win over UMass Lowell, senior defenseman Andy Welinski had a hand in both Bulldog markers, scoring the first and assisting on the game-winner. It was his first multi-point game of the NCHC.tv season and the seventh multi-point game of his career. Junior forward Dominic Toninato scored the game-winning goal late in the second period Upcoming Games on the power play to break a 1-1 tie. It was his team-leading third goal of Saturday, Oct. 31 the season and second game-winner this year. No. 2/1 Omaha at Western Michigan, 7:00 p.m. ET • Denver sophomore forward Danton Heinen scored two goals in the No. 7/8 UMass Lowell at No. 6/6 Minnesota Duluth, 7:07 p.m. CT Pioneers’ last-minute loss at Boston College and added an assist as he No. 15/14 Miami at No. 14/13 St. Cloud State, 7:07 p.m. CT had a hand in all three DU goals. It was his fifth career multi-goal game. No. 1/2 North Dakota at Colorado College, 7:37 p.m. MT Freshman forward Dylan Gambrell dished out a career-high three assists in the loss, as well. In the first conference game of the night, Western Michigan handed No. 2/1 Omaha its first loss of the season as the Broncos upset the Out east, No. 5/5 Denver battled No. 4/4 Boston College in a back- Mavericks, 4-2, Friday at Lawson Ice Arena. The Broncos never trailed and-forth affair, only to fall short in the final minute as the Eagles while junior forward Sheldon Dries tallied the game-winner to break a escaped with a 4-3 win at the Conte Forum.
