His PROGRAM graduate teaching duties include conducting the three concert bands, writing drill and instructing the 250-member Hawkeye Marching Band, leading the Iowa Pep Band, and administrative duties. Mr. Hauta earned a B.A. in music from the University of Minnesota, Morris and a M.M. in Music Education from the University Band University of Minnesota, Duluth, where he also completed the coursework and recitals for a M.M. degree in conducting. Mr. Hauta taught in the Eden Prairie, Ely, and Roseau school districts of Minnesota. West Side Story Medley (1957/1990) Leonard BERNSTEIN (1918–1990) arr. Jay Bocook JOE SCHEIVERT is a graduate teaching assistant for University Bands at The University of Iowa and Joseph Cernuto, guest conductor is currently enrolled in the D.M.A. in wind conducting program as a student of Dr. Mark Heidel. His duties include conducting concert ensembles and serving on the staff of the Hawkeye Marching Band I Dreamed a Dream Claude-Michel SCHÖNBERG (b.1944) and Iowa Pep Band. Mr. Scheivert previously taught instrumental music at international schools in Asia, from Les Misérables (1980/2009) and Alain BOUBIL (b. 1941) frst at International School Eastern Seaboard in Sri Racha, Thailand, followed by the Senri and Osaka arr. Michael Brown International Schools of Kwansei Gakuin in Osaka, Japan. He also served as graduate assistant with the Katie Knight, contralto Penn State University athletic bands and taught choral and general music in Lewes, Delaware. Originally Nolan Hauta, guest conductor from Spring Grove, Penn., Mr. Scheivert currently lives in North Liberty with his wife, Jennifer, and their Hawkeye Glory (1938) Karl L. KING four children: Kathryn, Jacob, Samuel, and Benjamin. (1891–1971) AILEEN SULLIVAN is in her frst year as a D.M.A. candidate in band conducting and a graduate Joseph Scheivert, guest conductor teaching assistant at The University of Iowa. Prior to her current appointment, she was the Large Ensembles coordinator for the music division at Boston Conservatory at Berklee. She holds degrees in Highlights Sheldon HARNICK (b. 1924) music education and conducting from the University of New Hampshire. from Fiddler on the Roof (1964/1965) and Jerry BOCK (1928–2010) arr. John Warrington Ms. Sullivan served as the director of bands at Lebanon High School in New Hampshire from 2011 to Aileen Sullivan, conductor 2014, where she taught instrumental ensembles and general music courses. She also worked as the music director for the Lebanon High School Wet Paint Players, North Country Community Theatre’s Iowa Concert Band teen program, and BarnArts Center for the Arts’ Summer Institute. Originally from Berlin, New Kevin Kastens - conductor Hampshire, Ms. Sullivan currently resides in North Liberty, Iowa. American Overture (1956) Joseph Willcox JENKINS (1928–2014) KATIE KNIGHT, a native of Ely, Iowa, is excited to join The University Band on stage as a guest artist for their Spring Pops Spectacular. Ms. Knight has performed in shows such as Bye, Bye, Birdie, The Typewriter (1950) Leroy ANDERSON (1908–1975) Sondheim on Sondheim, and Suor Angelica. She was also selected as the mezzo soprano soloist for arr. Floyd E. Werle The Messiah in 2013 at Kirkwood Community College. While at Kirkwood, Ms. Knight studied under Kathy Ford, soloist the direction of Ray Salucka and was awarded Vocal Musician of the year in 2014. Since transferring to The University of Iowa, she has performed in Kantorei, the premier choral ensemble, under the 76 Trombones Meredith WILLSON (1902–1984) direction of Dr. Timothy Stalter. In 2016, Katie was the mezzo soprano soloist in Beethoven’s Choral from The Music Man (1950) arr. Naohiro Iwai Fantasy and in 2017, played the role of Ruth in Pirates of Penzance. In the last year, Ms. Knight has also performed as a guest artist with Johnson County Landmark, the premier jazz band at The University America the Beautiful (1910) Samuel A. WARD (1847–1903) of Iowa. Katie studies with Professor Stephen Swanson, and plans to graduate this spring with the arr. Carmen Dragon Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance. Iowa Symphony Band KATHY FORD is an Iowa native and proud University of Iowa alumna. Last month, Kathy celebrated 25 years of employment at The University of Iowa and has enjoyed collaborating in the College of Richard Mark Heidel - conductor Law, Department of Dance, and School of Music. Kathy currently works directly with University Bands, An Evening at the Movies: The Music of John Williams including the largest and most visible music ensemble on campus – the Hawkeye Marching Band! While a student at Iowa, Kathy was also a trumpet player in the Hawkeye Marching Band and Iowa “Jurassic Park” Soundtrack Highlights (1993) arr. Paul Lavender Pep Bands, and she enjoyed performing in the Rose Bowl and Holiday Bowl. During spring break, Kathy toured and performed with The University of Iowa Concert Band in Northern Ireland. Kathy has Raider’s March arr. Paul Lavender from “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981/2004) fostered and maintained several professional networks across campus and values the diversity and vast resources available at The University of Iowa.
