NRFL Division 2 PAPATOETOE AFC vs TAKAPUNA AFC 3.00 pm 7 May 2016, Murdoch Park, Papatoetoe NRFL Reserve game kick off 12.30 pm 1 Papatoetoe Association Football Club Inc Murdoch Park, 27 Chestnut Road, Papatoetoe (09) 278 8011 Club directory Club President Club Secretary Pamela Luhrs [email protected] 300 9112 Executive Committee: Hans Anema Simon Kerr Adrian King Andrew Kirk David Robertson Patrons Ross Robertson, JP Phil Greenbank, JP Neville Culpitt Useful links Website www.papatoetoeafc.org.nz Twitter @PapatoetoeAFC Facebook www.facebook.com/papatoetoe.afc.1959 www.facebook.com/PapatoetoeAfcJuniors 2 Executive Welcome It is my honour and privilege to welcome you to Papatoetoe AFC this afternoon, for what I hope will be a thrilling game and I am sure it won't disappoint. There's certainly plenty of action planned for this weekend at Murdoch Park, which sees our NRFL Women's Prems, NRFL Men's Div 2, Women's Div 3 and Men's Over 40 teams all grace the hallowed turf. This weekend is also the 'Battle of the Toey' as our Over 40 Div 4 teams come head to head on the pitch. It's sure to be end to end stuff as each team tries their upmost to secure bragging rights for the coming weeks and of course the three points. That leads me to another battle faced by one of our members. I'm sure many of you are aware of the devastating attack Paul Margee fell victim to last month. Our heartfelt thoughts are with Paul and his family. We share your sadness and sincerely hope that Paul's road to recovery is quick and look forward to seeing him down at the club again in the not too distant future. It was a case of mixed fortunes for the Knock-out Cup draws last week, the men face a tough trip to Div 1 leaders Hibiscus Coast AFC in the Chatham Cup, whilst the Women’s were awarded a bye into the next round of the National Cup . I'm excited about the Hibiscus Coast game as it gives the lads a great chance to show that they have the ability, plus the fight and resilience to compete at the higher level. There's no doubt in my mind that Mark and the boys can come back across the Harbour Bridge with the result needed to put them into the draw for the next round. As announced in the last programme Dave Owen has stepped down from his role as President of the club. That’s certainly left us with a few challenges as we transition and try to support our NRFL teams in what are effectively semi-professional leagues now. It's a challenge that we are fully committed to, and excited to be a part of. My personal involvement with Papatoetoe may only go back a few years, but I’ve grown extremely fond of the place and genuinely believe that with the support of everyone, then together can make this a special club for all to enjoy and be proud of. Progress won’t come instantly though or overnight for that matter and there’s certainly no magic wand, but by building the right team of people at the core of the club, with a clear strategy to work towards, then I believe will be able to make improvements in all areas. Our first goal though is to score more than the opposition today and claim the three points! Enjoy the game and Go the Mighty Toey! Simon Kerr, Executive Committee 3 Words from the Junior Side As a first year Coach for the grade 11 Warriors team, and after the third week of the league, the kids have been performing at their very best performance which reflects the interest of the game at a very young age. These young kids have shown their best efforts which reflects the potentials they possess and with well grooming and coaching they will surely be assets for the club at senior level. The support from parents is tremendous. These kids surely want to play, and we parents should support and fulfill their wish of playing. The kids will surely reward us for our hard work and sacrifices. Leave aside all the negative aspects and come up with a positive mind and ideas and let complaints be taken care of in true sportsmanship. If we have a strong foundation for our primary club competition, then our secondary and senior club competitions will be well organised and all involved will have a vast experience in running competitions efficiently while having great knowledge of administrative duties involved. A total of 12 kids at present are part of my development plan. I will make sure that these players are retained and they play together as a team as we move onwards. Also, I will make sure that the parents move on with me so that I don’t lose these developed players. This will enable me to groom them into very formidable, disciplined, dedicated, loyal players who shall give their 100% commitment when they wear the RED jersey and surely these players would bring joy to Papatoetoe AFC in the future. We know that glory doesn’t come easily, it takes years of hard work, commitment and sacrifice and I am sure that we will achieve our goals with proper planning and hard work. I would also like to thank Pamela, the Secretary of Papatoetoe AFC for showing faith in me and giving me the opportunity to coach one of the grade 11 teams. Also, I would like to thank the supportive parents who take their time to get their kids to training and to participate in the league. If you need further clarification and want to support these juniors in some way, please do not hesitate to contact me on 027 512 2824 otherwise at [email protected].
