The main goal of these biennial meetings is to promote across-border coope- rations and discussions dealing with the evolution of the Bohemian Massif, the largest ‚outcrop‘ of basement rocks in central Europe. The 2018 Presseck meeting is situated on top of the Münchberg Massif, which forms a tectonic klippe of high-grade metamorphic rocks surrounded by very low-grade rocks. Such isolated crystalline domains and their inversion in metamorphic grade had attracted the attention of early workers for decades and led to the first nappe model formulated for the Variscides by F.E. Suess in 1912. We think that this place and its scientific tradition is appropriate to present and discuss new results and concepts related to the evolution of the Bohemian Massif and the Variscides. The help and support of colleagues during the preparation and organization of this meeting is highly acknowledged. We wish all participants an enjoyable stay.
