Constitution, New U.S. Citizens to Be Honored at Aug. 15th Doubledays’ Game AUBURN, NY Aug. 9th – The Auburn Doubledays are proud to announce a celebration of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day at Falcon Park on Aug. 15th. Before the game, candidates for American citizenship will be escorted onto the field as their countries of origin are announced. New citizens will take the Oath of Allegiance together before they are joined by the fans in the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem. Major League Baseball’s Philadelphia Phillies, Cincinnati Reds, Tampa Rays, and San Diego Padres also will host ceremonies in conjunction with Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, which is celebrated on or around Sept. 17. That day marks the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution and a day when citizenship, by birth or naturalization, are celebrated. The Doubledays are the first professional ball club in New York State to participate, and the first club in Minor League Baseball to commit to this year’s national initiative led by the federal courts. “Auburn is home to some of the most influential people in American history,” said Adam Winslow, the current General Manager. “To host a citizenship ceremony in Auburn, on a baseball field no less, is definitely the most American thing that you can do to celebrate the Constitution.” For more information about the national Constitution Day initiative, contact Rebecca Fanning, national educational outreach manager for the federal courts, at [email protected].
