Academic Catalog 2010-2011 President’s Welcome Joseph L. Subbiondo California Institute of Integral Studies provides an integral education for a changing world, embodying a creative synthesis of global traditions and exploring the interplay of mind, body, and spirit. The Institute is dedicated to creating and integrating knowledge beyond the confines of traditional academic disciplines, and to developing a reflective and innovative learning community. The integral approach is a response to the growing need to synthesize the fragmentary aspects of contemporary thought and culture into a meaningful whole. The integral outlook, envisioned by the founders of CIIS, has grown to encompass the study of traditions and disciplines from around the globe, addressing all aspects of learning: the intellectual, the experiential, and the applied. As a leader in integral education, CIIS is well positioned to meet the needs of a growing student body. In preparing students to work in the areas of psychology, religion, philosophy, social sciences, and the humanities, the Institute’s PhD, PsyD, MA, and BA Completion programs cultivate qualities needed for transformative change in fields of work and in society. As you review the CIIS catalog, you will discover a university that advances its mission by offering courses on the frontier of knowledge, taught by faculty members who are scholars and student-centered teachers. For a spirited and meaningful education that will prepare you to engage in a positive transformation of our communities and our world, I welcome you to explore CIIS.
