AVIATORS INFLIGHT NEWS – 2019 Pacific Southern Division Champions - Las Vegas will open the 2021 campaign with a six-game homestand against the Sacramento River Cats, Tripe-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, from Thursday-Tuesday, May 6-11…Sacramento captured both the 2019 Pacific Coast League and Triple-A championships…the River Cats defeated Las Vegas 3-games-to-2 in the ’19 PCL playoffs…following an off day on Tuesday, May 12, the Aviators will travel to intrastate rival, Reno Aces, Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, in a six-game series from Thursday-Tuesday, May 13-18…the 2021 season will feature six-game series against opponents from Thursday-Tuesday and off days on Wednesday…the 2021 season will also feature 120 games (60-home; 60-away). 38 SEASONS IN THE SILVER STATE – The Aviators are playing in their 39th Triple-A professional baseball season in the Silver State (formerly the Pacific Coast League, 1903-2020) and currently as a member of Triple-A West…the Las Vegas Aviators have the proud distinction of being the longest enduring franchise in the history of professional sports in the state of Nevada…Las Vegas Triple-A baseball was born on April 10, 1983 before a sellout crowd of 10,622 at Cashman Field (Las Vegas defeated Salt Lake City, 11-8). TRIPLE-A WEST: Formerly the Pacific Coast League (118 years, 1903-2020)…Triple-A West will consist of two divisions for a total of 10 teams. Southeast Division: Charlotte Knights, Durham Bulls, Gwinnett Stripers, Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, Memphis Redbirds, Nashville Sounds, Norfolk Tides. 2020 SEASON – JUNE 30: Major League Baseball™ (MLB™) informed Minor League Baseball™ (MiLB™) that it will not be providing its affiliated Minor League teams with players for the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic…as a result, the Minor League Baseball season was canceled for the first time in its history…Minor League Baseball, which began as the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues, was founded on Sept. 5, 1901…the 2021 season will mark the 39th “calendar season” of Las Vegas Triple-A professional baseball in the Silver State. 2019 SEASON – The Aviators compiled the second-best record in the 16-team Pacific Coast League at 83-57 (.593)…Round Rock Express had the best record in the PCL at 84-56 (.600)...Las Vegas tied a franchise record for most road wins in a season with 44 (2002 team was 44-28, .611)…Las Vegas clinched its first PCL Playoff berth since the 2014 season (Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets)…Las Vegas lost to Sacramento, 3-games-to-2, in the League Championship Series…the River Cats captured the PCL and the Triple-A championships…Las Vegas recorded 250 home runs, breaking the previous mark of 184 (2001, 2004). LAS VEGAS 80-WIN SEASONS – The Las Vegas franchise has won 80 or more games in a season six times: 85 (2002, franchise best 85-59 record (.590); 83 (1983 inaugural season, 83-60 (.580); 83 (83-57, .593 in 2019); 81 (81-63, .563 in 2013); 81 (81-63, .563 in 2014); 80 (1986 PCL champions with an 80-62 mark (.563)…Las Vegas recorded back-to-back 80-win seasons for the first time in franchise history (2013 & 2014)...the 83-57 record in 2019 marked a single-season franchise record for winning percentage at .593 (140-game season). LAS VEGAS BALLPARK HISTORY: The Howard Hughes Corporation® (NYSE: HHC) announced on October 10, 2017 its plans to develop and construct a baseball stadium in Downtown Summerlin® on approximately eight acres just south of City National Arena, the National Hockey League practice facility for the Vegas Golden Knights. The announcement on October 10, followed a vote by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority Board of Directors approving a marketing partnership that gives LVCVA naming rights to the stadium. The Las Vegas Ballpark was designed by HOK, a global architecture firm with an expertise in stadium design and constructed by HUNT/PENTA. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Friday, February 23, 2018 before a crowd of several hundred people! The 8,834-fan-capacity stadium blends the distinct architectural style of the Summerlin® community with the aviation legacy of Howard Hughes. The ballpark will provide a wide range of seating options including 22 suites, club seats, berm seating, party zones and decks, picnic tables, kids’ zone, bars and even a pool beyond the outfield wall. Designed to create a festival-like atmosphere in Downtown Summerlin, the site will be landscaped to complement the master planned community. Parking is conveniently located on adjacent sites. The grand opening took place on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 before a sellout crowd of 11,036 and the Aviators defeated Sacramento, 10-2. LAS VEGAS AVIATORS LOGO AND INFORMATION: The Howard Hughes Corporation®, owner of the city's professional Triple-A baseball team of Triple-A West (formerly the Pacific Coast League, PCL), and developer of the Summerlin® master planned community and the Las Vegas Ballpark® located at Downtown Summerlin®, announced on December 8, 2018 the team's new name - the Las Vegas Aviators®.
