USDA tags left in the animals ear must be covered with dark tape. 3 Cattle Swine Ear Tags: This year the OYE will not provide the 840 tags for swine exhibitions. OYE will provide a generic OYE tag, however the exhibitor will be responsible for getting an 840 tag through their veterinary or agriculture educator/instructor. All pigs are required by law to have an 840 EID tag. 2019 Market Hog Show: The 2019 market hog show WILL NOT be terminal. Online Nominations: Nominations now must be submitted online by your agriculture education instructor or extension educator before mailing DNA kits. Once the nomination is completed online, the DNA sample is to be mailed with all samples from the club or chapter along with a copy of the online receipt. Keep in mind a nomination does NOT mean your animal is entered for the Oklahoma Youth Expo, entries must be done in February to be eligible to show. Nominations for sheep, goats, and cattle must be submitted online and postmarked or hand delivered by November 13, 2018. Nominations for hogs must be submitted online and postmarked or hand delivered by December 13, 2018. For family nominations, the online entry must be done in each sibling’s name. Additional Steer Nomination Kit Instructions: Three, colored photos must be uploaded online with the nomination (examples under nominations). a. The first photo should be the full front view (head shot) of the steer with exhibitor in full view. b. The second and third photos should be the full right and left side profile views of the steer with the exhibitor included. c. All photos must be in full color and at least 4” x 6” in size. Breeding Ewes: All Breeding Ewes must be slick shorn to no longer than 1/4" and uniform over the entire body before entering the show ring. No wool is allowed above the knees or hocks. A wool cap is acceptable in the Purebred Breeding Ewe Show only. When a ewe enters the makeup arena, the sheep committee will determine if unacceptable wool has been left above the knees and hocks, including flank wool. If unacceptable wool is determined, the ewe will be disqualified. Market Lambs: When a lamb enters the makeup arena, the sheep committee will determine if unacceptable wool has been left above the knees and hocks, including flank wool. If unacceptable wool is determined, the lamb will be disqualified. Absolutely NO scooters, hoverboards, or dogs at the OYE. Subject to fines per warning. Nose Prints on Steers: Nose prints are no longer required for nominating steers. 4 Cattle Ownership Rule: If an exhibitor allows another showman to exhibit their animal(s) at any show, regardless of the type of show or state exhibited that has an ownership rule requirement, once the ownership deadline has occurred, said animal is deemed ineligible to show at the Oklahoma Youth Expo, regardless of ownership documentation. However, prior to OYE animal(s) may be exhibited by siblings of the same household that are too young to exhibit at OYE, and not be deemed ineligible as this would be the same as family nominations. Ownership deadlines differ between species and sex of animals, deadlines can be found on the Oklahoma Youth Expo website: www.okyouthexpo.com. Cattle & Swine Showmanship: Cattle and Swine exhibitors must qualify through their county livestock show in order to compete in the OYE Showmanship Contests. The names of the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion showman, in each age division (for both species), must be submitted online at www.okyouthexpo.com by their respective county extension agent. Bronze Medallion Animals: In the market steer, lamb and goat divisions, the Bronze Medallion (third best of show) can come from the same breed as the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion. If this were to occur, the third animal in the sale order of said breed would pull into the line-up to be considered for the Bronze Medallion Award. Therefore, all animals selected third overall in a breed behind the Reserve Champions need to be prepared to move up and show during the Grand Champion drives.
