A.M.160. 11/27/63 ZETAL113 OF 11(•011T I In regard to the background investigation of the SUBJECT the SUBJECTS fingerprints as furnished by the Dallas Police Department were negative in the Chicago Police Departments Fingerprint files, by Lt Schoen,Director. A search of the inquiry section was negative as to any arretts.A n account of the shooting of Leon Cooke december 8 1939 was located, but the referance to the SUBJECT was that he was not present when Leon Cooke was shot by John Martin the president of the Junk deaxiers and waste handlers Union. Subject was in referance only,that he was an organized and dues • collector for this local,but according to the report by Homicide section , Jack Rubenstein was held at the police Station in the investigation but the report does not declare any other action in regards to Jack Rubenstein Newspaper reports of the shooting at the time of the occurance declare that John Martin was arrested and posted bond after Leon Cooke was shot and after Leon Died Jan 5 1940 4 weeks after the assault The Newpapers • state that John Martin was sought again for causing the death. further search is being conducted to determine the final results of this death but above is the only referance to the SUBJECT contained so far. As to the Jack Rubenstein mentioned in the records of the Special Committee on Un.American Activities Appendix Part 1 1940 page 919-920-921-and 922 . The Department files do not reveal a physical arrest of this person at any previous time, but he had been detained by police concerning a homicide investigation on 8 December 1939.
