The idea of totally perceiving and visualising three dimensional design has always intrigued me. To be able to know exactly how the finished design will look and feel requires a unique insight to which all designers aspire. It is this insight that enables designers to exhibit control in the evolution of their designs. It is one thing to have this gift of insight but without the ability to communicate the vision to others the final goal cannot be reached. Design is about ideas and communicating those ideas. One increasingly accessible application available to designers is the use of the computer as a visualisation and communication tool. It is here that my personal interest lies. The computer is both a design tool for the designer to evaluate designs and as a communication device for showing the design. My quest for total visualisation has led me through the experience of three dimensional modelling systems and into realistic rendering. The current rendering system platform in the Curtin Architecture department has provided, through the CAN Raytrace program and EAGLE 3D modeler, an impressive integrated design tool. However it does not incorporate realistic lighting values based on physical models. So my search began... Simon Crone.
