A vs 3 CONFERENCE DIRECTOR'S FOREWARD What :follow*. is a loosely, yet respectfully assembledcollection of most.of what went om at the humanities conference held atBakersfield College on April 4, 1975. I say "most" because, unfortunately the discussion question,"Are Behavioristic Goals and Objectives Applicable to the Humanities?", is notincluded here and some discussion questions are presented in much lessdepth than others. This is basically due to inadequate taping of several discussiongroups for which I take full responsibility. I hope, however, that what is presented, which I feel is quitesubstantial, will be of value to all who read it. I tried very hard to resent ideas, dis6ussion, and issues &E they arose and actually occurred duringthe group sessions; and only interfered by personally commenting aboutthree times. These comments are clearly listed and are put in the form of questionsrather than dogmatic statements, so I hope you won't object to them toomuch. As I reviewed the conference in preparing this summary, I am onthe whole satisfied that the conferencg was significant, meaningful, anduseful to all of us. As in most conferences, discussion questions were notcompletely answered to everyone's satisfaction, but important issues wereraised and meaningfully discussed to the extent that I feel we can allpossibly improve and enrich our thinking'and thereby our teaching ofwhatever humanities courses we offer at'our various schools. I truly feel that the summaries of the sessionsspeak for themselves and so I will not summarize further here. I wish to thank all who helpedwith the conference--all my fellow Bakersfield College faculty members and its administrators and all discussion oup leaders and participants; but especially the following, whose ownummaries of their specific groups appear in this report: Beverly Palmer, Chaffey College; John Tufft, Taft' College; John Williamson, Reedley Co lege; Michael Anker, ContraCosta College; Ron Dethlefson, Bakersfield College; and BerniceZelditch, Foothill College. Special mention must also be given to Roger Johnson, BakersfieldCollege Food Services Supervisor, whose excellent lunch was certainly a high point of the( conference.
