SCORERS 25 YEARS NNIVERSAR A Y VOL. 1 EDITION ONE 2016/2017 SEASON CEO’s MESSAGE I often get asked what we do between April and October – when the cricket season is over. The answer is everything. You might think that this a strange answer, but it is true. The off-season is our busiest time, as this is when we start all the prep work with the new season in mind. From doing important maintenance on all the cricket facilities at Kingsmead and around the Province, to getting our marketing plans finalised, this is a very busy time for all of the staff at KZN Cricket. This is also a time when we go on a recruitment drive to identify and train new Umpires and Scorers, because without these vitally important people, the game just would not function. So while there are no matches being played across the Province on the weekends, there is a hive of activity at Sahara Stadium Kinsgmead – as we work hard to ensure that you all have the necessary support when the new season comes around. Enjoy the time off, remember to stay fit and healthy, so that when the summer comes around you are ready for the challenge of the new cricket season. We hope that you enjoy reading this newsletter. Pete De Wet Chief Executive 25 YEARS NNIVERSAR A Y VOL. 1 EDITION ONE 2016/2017 SEASON MESSAGE FROM THE NEW DOLPHINS’ COACH It is with immense pride, great honour and humility that I took up my post at Kingsmead on 8 June 2016. I was supposed to start on 1 June, but sadly a family bereavement led to me starting my tenure a week late. I apologise for this, but I am sure all stakeholders and staff understand circumstances such as these. It is my passionate belief and mission to give my all to make the Dolphins a humble and very successful team who aim to play an exciting and dominant brand of cricket that promotes the game, excites everyone watching and creates stunning memories. I want to be part of a “Golden Age” of cricket in this historically rich cricketing Province. I want all people to look back and say “Wow, remember that team and the way they played and how they enjoyed it and made us all feel part of the family.” Name: Grant Anthony Morgan We, the Dolphins team, belong to each cricketer and person in KwaZulu- Teams Coached: Pretoria High Natal and we will do our best to make you proud. KZN nominations for level 3 for 2016 have to be submitted by 18 July. Those level 2 coaches interested in applying must submit an application to [email protected] by no later than 10 July 2016. KZN then will finalise their nominees and submit to CSA who then will advise KZN who has been accepted. Those who have been accepted will have till 15 August to confirm their availability. Travel expenses will be for the candidate; the rest will be covered by CSA. A point to note, if one is coaching U11, U13, U15 it is not essential for a level 3 unless looking to coach a Provincial team. Good luck for the winter. • LEVEL 3 PRACTICALS FOR 2015 CANDIDATES IS 02-05 AUGUST. STILL TO BE CONFIRMED • THAT WILL BE 02/03 AUGUST • FINAL DATE FOR LEVEL 3 NOMINATIONS IS MONDAY 18 JULY • LEVEL 3 COURSE IS 05-09 SEPTEMBER • THOSE CANDIDATES WHO HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED HAVE UNTIL 15 AUGUST TO CONFIRM Coaching Tip As a young cricketer it is very important to understand one’s strengths and weaknesses, but it is also important to be versatile and adaptable. A point in mind is the Irish win over the Boks this June. No team will prepare to play a Test match with 14 players let alone 13 for 10 minutes. The manner in which those players rose to the occasion was far more than admirable, in fact it was stupendous. To see the right winger at scrums and a front rower defending in the backline with the commitment and tenacity that they did, inspired the rest of the team and eventually took them across the line. In terms of an aspiring cricketer, one can plan and prep in a certain manner, but the situation of conditions and the scoreboard may determine how the individual and or team adapts to it. So one’s preparation is key to success and one must ensure that all bases are covered, whether a batter, a bowler or a wicketkeeper.
