Beginning in 2001 data was solely tracked using North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes, therefore previous data cannot be compared using a one-to-one comparison. For example, the agriculture category has been completely changed. NAICS is the product of a cooperative effort on the part of the statistical agencies of the United States, Canada and Mexico and provides a common and consistent classification system for the three countries. Due to major differences in NAICS and SIC structures however, data for 2001 and forward is not comparable to the SIC-based data for earlier years. For further information visit www.census.gov.
