Their respective efforts are highlighted in this the 28th Annual Year Book of the Sydney South West School Sport Association, the first to be in electronic form. In addition to recognising successful students, this Year Book also acknowledges the many teachers who have worked tirelessly as coaches, sports organisers, zone executive and conveners. Their selfless commitment to school sport at all levels has enabled so much to be achieved. This year has seen some tremendous achievements by the Association both on and off the playing field. These include: 11 SSW Teams winning respective championships across PSSA and CHS 32 Primary Students selected in NSWPSSA Teams 125 Students selected in NSWCHS Teams or higher 91 Teachers directly involved in the Association as Members of the Executive, Conveners, Coaches or Managers. Numerous others involved as Officials at Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics Championships. An increase in the amount of schools releasing teachers to officiate at SSW events allowing for better quality in the programs as well as greater understanding that for the students to be provided for, personnel need to be released to run the programs. Greater opportunities for teachers to be educated in, and feel more comfortable to play a greater part in School Sport in general. Creation of the Schools Encouragement program – Recognition of SSW Schools who show strong support for G&T Sporting Programs at Association level. Greater communication established between Directors of the varying Principal Networks in SSW and the Association. The affiliation of Bankstown South Infants School to the East Hills Zone PSSA to allow those infants students who are eligible to have access to the representative sporting pathway in Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics. More importantly, the provision of opportunity for 85,000 students within south western Sydney. SCHOOL SPORT is for all students, not only the elite, as everyone benefits from improving their fitness, refining their skills and learning to be a team member. Through recognition of success and acknowledgement of achievement, all students are encouraged to continue their participation in sport. Finally, I would like to congratulate the executive of the Association on their efforts in producing this Year Book. Publication of a Year Book has been a tradition of the Association and catalogues the outstanding history of the Association. ANDREW FIELDING Director, Educational Leadership Chullora Principals Network Metropolitan South Operational Directorate Public Schools NSW 2018 has once again been a productive year for SSW, with in excess of 600 students being provided with many representational opportunities. Twenty Three teams attended State Championships across twenty two different sports; and in excess of 370 students participated in the Regional Orienteering Day. The Association hosted two very successful NSW Championships, those being NSW PSSA Boys Hockey at Narellan and PSSA Golf at Catherine Fields. The provision of opportunity and the dedication of the students, teachers and officials in SSW SSA this year resulted in: 5 SSW students receiving Primary Blue honours 30 students selected into NSW PSSA Teams plus a further 2 asked to join invitational teams 4 SSW personnel elected to NSW PSSA positions for 2019 1 SSW official receiving Life Membership of the SSW Association. I would like to express my thanks to all whose contributions ensured that our students were provided with the chance to excel and compete at their highest possible level. I would especially like to thank Paul Bush, Ian Booth and Brent Kunkler, who were Carnival Managers at the NSW Championships hosted by SSW, as they were wonderful ambassadors who ensured that both events hosted by our Association were an outstanding success. As an Association, we strive to improve sporting programs and to increase the involvement of staff and students at this level. Seeing so many teachers volunteer to officiate at our 3 major carnivals was another highlight of the year and something that I hope continues into the future. The efforts of teachers in schools who coach teams, attend sporting events and complete the required administration for sport is gratefully acknowledged. I’d like to thank all of the School Sport Coordinators and coaches on behalf of SSW for your time and support. I extend this thanks to the school Principals who also support our sporting programs by providing opportunities for their staff to attend carnivals and championships, mentor younger teachers; and make time in their schedules to be officials and spectators themselves. I would also like to acknowledge those who serve their school communities at the Zone and Association level. To all of the Zone Presidents and their Executive teams, thank you for your efforts, extra time and commitment to school sport. PSSA is a recognised Gifted and Talented program within the public school system that continues only with the support of school teachers, their Principals and Executive Teams. I am appreciative of the high standard of competition organized at the higher levels of sport and thank the Conveners, Coaches and Team Officials of Sydney South West for their dedication and commitment to preparing and managing our students at State Carnivals.
