GARDEN SPOT VILLAGE INVITES PUBLIC TO ENJOY A BUSTER KEATON COMEDY Organist Wayne Zimmerman to accompany Seven Chances on Sat., May 5 NEW HOLLAND, Pa. — Apr. 9, 2012 — Garden Spot Village invites fans of classic comedy to laugh along with Buster Keaton in Seven Chances with a musical score provided by renowned theater organist Wayne Zimmerman. “The recent success of The Artist has put silent movies in the spotlight again, said Colleen Musselman, director of life enrichment at Garden Spot Village. “We started showing classic silent films last year, and people are really enjoying them, especially with live musical accompaniment. Wayne has a great talent for bringing the movies to life.” Zimmerman, who hails from West Chester, is well known throughout the mid-Atlantic for accompanying silent movies. He began playing keyboard instruments as a child. He played pipe organ at several theaters in the Philadelphia area in the 1960s and ‘70s and performed twice on the Wanamaker pipe organ in Philadelphia. At Garden Spot Village, he plays the community’s Rodgers church organ. In Seven Chances, Buster Keaton starts as Jimmy Shannon, a financier who learns that he will inherit $7 million if he marries by 7 p.m. on his 27th birthday, which happens to be that day. Keaton also directed the film, which also starred Snitz Edwards as Caleb Pettibone, the lawyer who sets out to help Shannon find a bride; T. Roy Barnes as Billy Meekin, Shannon’s partner in the brokerage firm on the brink of financial ruin; and Ruth Dwyer as Mary Jones. The Seven Chances screenplay was based on a 1916 play written by Roi Cooper Megrue and produced by David Belasco. The story has since been reworked several times, include for the 1999 film The Bachelor, starring Chris O’Donnell and Renée Zellweger. Seven Chances will be screened on Sat., May 5, beginning at 7 p.m. in the chapel at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland. Admission is free. Donations will be accepted at the door.
