your LISA high luminosity, low resolution, spectrograph. We consider that you are already familiar with spectroscopy basics and that you are able to control your telescope and your CCD camera. We start with a presentation of the instrument, then we'll describe how to prepare it, and and we'll finish with its using in the field. You'll find also in appendix how to tune all the parts of the instrument, as it has been done in the factory. LISA can be used in two different configurations : the standard one is VISIBLE mode. This is the one we describe in this document. The other one is INFRA-RED. You will find in appendix the differences between two configurations and how to switch from one to another (this must be done by experienced user only). Keep in mind that the spectrograph must be tuned and prepared during daylight in a room : do not go straight towards the telescope and wait for night ! Starting in spectroscopy can be impressive, since there are several elements to put under control. But thanks to this guide, you will see that none of them is very complex, and just some rigour is required to make things working together. We hope that you will enjoy spectroscopy with LISA. Join the increasing Shelyak Instruments users and amateur spectroscopist community on Spectro-L (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/spectro-l/) to keep us informed of your progress and results and to look for new projects or observing campaigns. But most importantly, enjoy spectrography! Olivier Thizy ([email protected]) François Cochard ([email protected]) LISA – User Guide – DC0012A 4 / 67 2 Out of the box When you receive the your LISA, you should find these elements : – The LISA spectrograph – A tool set, if you need to tune the instrument – The CCD camera adapter – Documentation – Depending on your order, some optional
