Top seed Lopez will face the 6- foot-11 American Reilly Opelka, a semi-finalist in last week's event in Atlanta and the youngest player in the draw here at 18. Lopez enters the tournament with a strong season under his belt so far, having won his fifth career ATP World Tour title (first on clay) in Gstaad, where he was also the top seed. He also has made two semi-final appearances in Dubai and Houston. Tomic, the No. 2 seed, returns to Mexico for the second time this year after finding success in Acapulco, where he reached the final before losing to Thiem, He enters with a 15-8 win-loss record on hard courts, compared to his opponent Dusan Lajovic, who has a 3-5 mark on hard. No. 4 Querrey begins play on Stadium Court against Colombia's Santiago Giraldo.
