STANDAR T’ NEWS Nr 168 Spring 2019 ISSA S International Standart Sandyachting Association Association des Propriétaires de Char Standart Photo : Walter Carels >> Dear landsailor, We would like to pass you more detailed information about the Asnelles 2024 Landsailing project by sharing this Standart News. The efforts made by the French committee of Asnelles are impressive and we are convinced that the forth coming event will help to develop landsailing in a positive way. The French multichampion François Garnavault encouraged the FISLY (Federation Internationale de Sand et Land Yachting) and ISSA (International Standart Sandyachting Association) to go on with the idea to position landsailing as an official international sport with Olympic potential by joining the GAISF (Global Association of International Sports Federations). Major progress has been made by FISLY members on an international level and we as a landsailing community have achieved GAISF recognition, a situation we have aspired to since our formation in 1962. We have platformed ourselves well and are now in a position we could only dream of a couple of years ago. Now the time has come to take to the next leap together by asking for your input to achieve our biggest dream. Bringing together a larger united landsailing community from all around the world. We are all aware that Landsailing takes place across all continents, some countries are still operating alone without support as they try to build interest in our sport locally. Some may not yet have contact with or be communicating with other landsailing countries who have similar experiences at an international level. FISLY can be your helping hand to develop landsailing in your particular place. The Asnelles Landsailing project has every chance of being successful. There are event dates fixed in the international sailing programme for June 2019, June 2020 and June 2024 and we wish to invite and attract sailors of all ages and nationalities to compete on the extraordinary beaches of Normandy in these events. Photo : Walter Carels >> Eurocup Gold Beach Asnelles The Eurocup Landsailing event on 8-9-10 June 2019 is organised to coincide with the commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the D-day landing in June 1944. The event is taking place on the actual beach at Asnelles where the D-Day landings took place with the D-Day mulberry harbour as the back drop to the event. It is anticipated that there may be 50 000 persons present at the 75th anniversary rememberance celebrations. The Asnelles committee encourages pilots from USA, Canada, New-Zealand and other countries involved in the D-day landings in 1944 to come and sail with the European pilots to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-day. Lots of interesting activities have been scheduled during that weekend. The American President confirmed his presence. You can check the full program of the weekend on following links: http://www.plagesdu6juin1944.com/ >> and http://bayeux-bessin-tourisme.com/wp- content/uploads/2018/11/Programme_DDFNdy_2019_03.02.2019.pdf. The air show performed by the “Patrouille de France“ on 8 June is a highlight of the weekend. The specialist aviators will show up above the port of Arromanches (2 kms to the left of the landsailing course in Asnelles). We have sufficient yachts available to share if you can’t manage to be bring your own landyacht. We will primarily sail with Standart yachts and MC2 yachts during the event. Register now if you would like to participate as a pilot to the event : https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScBKa442z2oomQAfV5zpYzbLlZqyXb6jGZrgK >> sWcmn9vYbb6Q/viewform Photo : Walter Carels The focus on the Eurocup event in June 2020 is to have 40 different countries sailing. This we know will be difficult to achieve, and we therefore warmly invite you to join our international landsailing family, known as FISLY (www.fisly.org). FISLY is now recognised by the Global Association of Sports Federations (GAISF) as the sole worldwide land sailing governing body. The FISLY joined the GAISF as an observer last year and has active contacts worldwide. FISLY’s big aim with the support of GAISF is to be your helping hand to bring landsailing countries facing similar challenges together, to Photo : Walter Carels assist in the development of national organisations and local clubs in places like Africa, Asia and the Middle-East. Ice sailors, Blokart sailors, sea sailors are all welcome and please feel free to contact FISLY if you are interested in creating a national association or club. We are working together as an international land sailing community since 1962 and we have valuable experience on all levels (federations, clubs, competition, recreational sailing). The June 2019 event now focuses on the monotype landyacht, class “Standart" with integrated wireless >> electronic sensor tags scoring system. This yacht has been sailed by landsailors from around the world in every international event since 1995 and it is known as a secure and fair yacht for all genders and ages. The "Standart" as monotype yacht fits completely within the future objectives of ISSA, FISLY and GAISF. We have land yacht pilots who sail many other yacht types which are also close to the monotype principle (Manta, Promo, Blokart, Mini Skeeter, Excelor, DN for example). It has not been decided yet which type of yacht may be selected as a future Olympic Class. The support landyacht pilots provide to each other worldwide is renown and admired in the sporting world, and it is recognised by the support of GAISF. We would now like to extend that support to new countries and associations around the world and ask you to join with us and other countries around the world on our journey to extend the reach of land sailing as a hobby and as a potential Olympic sport.
