FAGIN, Alvina J. Fagin (Abstracted from the Evening Leader, St. Marys, Ohio – 11 April 2016) Alvina J. Fagin, age 80, of Celina, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at the home of her daughter in Newark. She was born on Jan. 5, 1936, in Cincinnati to the late Albert G. and Elaine J. (Kingham) Benzinger. Alvina loved to go to the beach in the Florida Keys, where she and her husband spent much of their time. She was the co-owner of St. Marys Marina along with her husband, Dan. She enjoyed cooking for her family and like her husband enjoyed playing euchre. Mostly she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by a son Bruce (Suzi Sutherland) Fagin of Delaware; a daughter Julie Ann (James) Woodring of Newark; by three grandchildren Jennifer, Jacob and Allyson Woodring; by a great-grandson Nathan Quick; by a brother Samuel (Sandy) Benzinger; by two sisters JoAnn Viox and Cheryl (Kenneth) Roberts; by a brother- in-law Samuel Shumard, and by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Alice Shumard. A memorial mass for Daniel and Alvina Fagin will be Friday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, 552 Main St., Milford. FAGIN, Daniel Joseph Fagin (Abstracted from the Evening Leader, St. Marys, Ohio – 1 March 2016) Daniel Joseph Fagin, age 81, of Fairway Drive in Celina, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016. He was born on Dec. 5, 1934, in Cincinnati to Harold and Helen (Goggin) Fagin. On Feb. 15, 1958, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Milford, he married Alvina Jane Benzinger, who survives. He is also survived by his son Bruce (Suzi Sutherland) Fagin of Delaware.; his daughter Julie Ann (James Barry) Woodring of Newark; his grandchildren Jennifer, Jacob and Allyson; his great-grandson Nathan; his sisters Nancy Fagin of Cincinnati and Martha Fagin of Covington, KY, and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Lorna Fay and Ruth Frederickson and his brother Thomas Fagin. He was a proud veteran of the Marine Corp. He worked for many years as an independent claims adjuster. He, along with his wife, owned and operated St. Marys Marina from 1985 to 1999. He enjoyed boating and playing cards, especially the game of gin, or euchre with his grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. FAHNCKE, Bernice Bollenbacher Fahncke (Abstracted from http://www.hogenkampfh.com/memsol.cgi?user_id=1420733) Bernice (Bollenbacher) Fahncke, age 100, formerly of Celina, died on January 2, 2014 in Williamsburg, VA. She was born on June 3, 1913 in Mercer County to Benjamin and Rosa (Trisel) Bollenbacher. On February 17, 1940 she married Herbert C. Fahncke, who died on March 12, 2002. Bernice is survived by two daughters, Rosalie (Charles) Frey, Williamsburg, VA, and Connie (Paul) Thieroff, Ft. Wayne, IN; 2 granddaughters, and a sister, Clara (Ted) Brinkman, Celina. Bernice was preceded in death by her two brothers, Roland Bollenbacher, Harry (Louise) Bollenbacher, and a sister, Martha (Glenn) Deitsch. Bernice retired from Otis Hospital in June 1977. She was a marvelous cook and loved using her sewing machine. Her home was always warm and welcoming to one and all. Funeral services are pending at this time. She was born on September 02, 1919 in Rockford, Ohio to the late Benjamin and Merlie (Rush) Snyder. On June 15, 1937 she married Norman Edgar Otto Fahncke, who died Nov. 5, 1989. Bessie is survived by her daughters & sons-in-law Donna & William Randall of Auburndale, FL, Reta Schroeder of Celina, Carolyn Glock of Celina, Linda & Frank Pulskamp of Ostrander, Patty & Jeff Johnson of Mendon, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law Lowell Schroeder, 2 Dec'd grandchildren Corbin HelenJaris, Brad Randall, brothers Verl Snyder, Dee Snyder, Darlene Snyder, Lowell Snyder, sisters Opal Huffman, Arberdeen Fickert, Lena Cook, Lela Felver, Bonita Dietsch, and her twin sister Jessie Sapp. Bessie graduated with the class of 1937 from Rockford High School, shortly after graduating she worked at the Rockford Canning Factory. Then she worked at Goodyear in St. Marys for 25 years until she retired in 1981. Bessie was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Celina, a member of the Ladies Aid at the church & a Faithful member of the Woman's Group at Church. She was a member of The Celina Eastern Star #91 and active with the Celina Council on Aging. Funeral services will be Monday Oct. 14, 2013 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Celina. Fahncke (Abstracted from the Evening Leader, St. Marys, Ohio – 25 August 2020) Martin J. Fahncke, age 101, died on Monday, Aug. 24 at Otterbein - St. Marys. Martin was born to Otto M. and Eda (Kable) Fahncke on Nov. 6, 1918 in Liberty Township of Mercer County. On Nov. 11, 1944, he married the love of his life, Helen L. Sielschott, who preceded him in death. They had two daughters: Sharon M. Stonerock and Barbara A. Baker (Duane) who survive along with three grandsons and their families: Aaron (Laura) Stonerock, Sean (Sarah) Baker and Brian Baker (Lorie Calico); his great-grandchildren: Cameron, Nathan, Simon, Amelia, Maria and Brendan Stonerock, James, Katherine and Eloise Baker and Noah, Parker and Clara Calico; and sisters Marcella Werner and Celesta Howell; 2 sisters-in-law, many cousins, nieces, nephews and their children. Brothers and sisters who preceded him in death are: Lauretta Felver, Luther Fahncke, Kenneth Fahncke, Anna Brandt, Richard Fahncke and Wanda Fahncke. Martin served in World War II as an Army engineer, including 28 months of service in the Aleutian Islands. He was honorably discharged in October 1945 after the war ended. He returned to Celina where he worked for Heckler Hardware and Electric. The electric division became a separate business of which he was a co-owner. He worked as an electrician for 36 years until his retirement. Martin was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, Celina (Purple Door Church) after returning from the Army and became a very active member. He taught junior high Sunday School for 19 years and enjoyed helping to keep the physical building in good working order. He also served on the Vestry and Evangelism committee. After Martin retired, he continued using his electrical and carpentry skills working with the St. John Builders on local projects and church camps. He was also known among area church dartball players for being able to hit singles reliably. Martin chose to move to independent living at Otterbein - St. Marys in 2009, but that didn't mean he stopped volunteering at church even as he began volunteering in his new community. He began helping with landscaping and woodworking projects. Later he became known as a "cut up" for cutting over 100,000 squares of fabric for the My Very Own Blanket project at Otterbein. He was named Volunteer of the Year in 2016. When friends and family gathered on Martin's 100th birthday, many of his woodworking projects were on display. It was a wonderful occasion to celebrate a man who has brightened the lives of many. All who knew Martin will miss his warmth, love and humor. Because of the recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other health experts, and the prevalence of COVID in the area, the service will be limited to the immediate family only. There will not be a visitation. The family expresses their appreciation for your understanding. Arrangements are in the care of the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home, Celina.
