Anthony L. Rose, Phd

ANTHONY L. ROSE, PHD. Anthony Rose is a social psychologist, writer, and organization developer who has studied monkeys, apes, and humans; taught animal behavior, group dynamics, and human psychosocial development; and consulted to government and private sector organizations on forest management, military diplomacy, religious community development, educational innovation, and health care quality assurance. He now devotes his professional efforts to influencing the human dimensions of wildlife and wilderness conservation. Dr. Rose has written three books about the human--nature connection, lectured at many international conferences, published scores of chapters and articles in scientific anthologies and journals, and studied people and primates in Africa, Central America, and Asia. His inquiries into the bushmeat crisis have focused on commercial hunting and conservation values in west and central Africa, while his research on human-primate interaction has covered most of the world where apes and monkeys live. Rose's original studies of natural epiphanies demonstrated the crucial factors that affect humane values and expand world-view from ego and human centered to eco and life centered. His efforts to curb the commercial slaughter of endangered wildlife have been supported by a host of organizations including - Conservation International, Center for Applied Biodiversity Science, American Zoo & Aquarium Association, International Fund for Animal Welfare, Zoo Atlanta, Woodland Park Zoo, Oakland Zoo, Bellerive Foundation, Gorilla Foundation, Margot Marsh Biodiversity Foundation, The Wasmoeth Wildlife Foundation, and Newman’s Own Foundation. Anthony Rose developed and taught the first laboratory course in animal behavior at UCLA (1961) and earned his doctorate in experimental psychology in 1967 while serving as research fellow at the UCLA Brain Research Institute. He then spent a decade with renowned humanist Carl Rogers, co-founded and directed Center for Studies of the Person in La Jolla, California, wrote about the realization of human potential, produced educational games, films, and an award winning TV documentary on drug abuse prevention. Dr. Rose worked 25 years as consultant in strategic development areas for industry. He served seven years as director of organization design and research in the Kaiser-Permanente Medical Care Program in Southern California and Hawaii. He is currently CEO of The Biosynergy Institute and president of Altisima Press, director of Wildlife Protectors Fund, a member of IUCN/SSC African Primate Specialists Group, and serves on the Steering Committee of the Bushmeat Crisis Task Force. Dr. Rose has taught conservation psychology at Antioch University Southern California since 1996. Dr. Rose founded The Biosynergy Institute in 1994 to study and advance the synergy of humanity and nature. Under the BSI umbrella he established the Epiphany Project (1994), the Bushmeat Project (1996), and Altisima Press (2002). His current activities include 1) spear- heading promotion of his new book -- Consuming Nature: A Photo Essay on African Rainforest Exploitation, 2) directing Conservation Values Education programs in Cameroon and consulting to global conservationists on social change and biosynergy, and 3) touring the world to enlist people in the battle to save rainforests, threatened wildlife, and indigenous people in their remaining homelands worldwide.
