DOMs DAY, DOUBLE WICKET 4 The Prez’s Piece Darren Linton A busy November off the field has helped to offset some disappointments on field. Training numbers have fallen slightly, so we'd appreciate a bigger effort to attend practice and I can assure you the positive results will start to flow both for the club and the individual. Wearing your Parkfield gear to practice adds a little bit of pride and professionalism. For those that don't have any Parkfield gear contact myself, Couttsy or Shane Doig. (Numbers are on the notice board and on the Parkfield website) The white Parkfield shirts have arrived and look the part. Make sure you get one. Also, remember to get back on Saturday nights for match reports and support those who have done well. Prizes are awarded so it's worth your while. Joker Poker is worth entering too with first prize nudging $500 and tickets costing only $2. Off field has been fantastic. The Melbourne Cup was a magnificent day and topped off with our greyhound, Parkfield Pirate saluting the judge. Thanks to Geoff Milnes, Peter Baker, Marcus Coutts, David Ford, Bob & Phil Butler, Dale Harris, Rick Price, David Payne and everyone else that contributed to a successful day. Thanks again to David Ford for organising the Sandown Greyhound Challenge. A great day was had by all who attended and a nice little profit made. I'm sure all would agree that this would be worthwhile making into an annual event. 5 I know it slipped into December but we must also mention the $1000 draw which combined with the Juniors v Masters game made for a fun filled and exciting day. Thanks to David and Alyce for manning the bar all day, Bek and Cath for the awesome beef rolls, Doddsy, Ty and my daughters Ebony and Ruby for hosting the draw. Swiz, Steve and Tony Payne for organising the match and Tony for co-ordinating the draw and filling in for me when I had to leave early. Christmas is around the corner and don't forget our big Xmas party after round 6 on Saturday December 22nd at the clubrooms. Details will be posted shortly. Round 3 of 20/20 at Parkfield v Southern Pirates has been rescheduled for Wednesday December 12th and will be our last game so get along and support the boys. And don't forget that Round One has been rescheduled for Turf 1 and Turf 4 on Sunday December 16th. Thanks again to Swiz for his amazing work on the Parkfield press, Juniors, selection and the One Day side. Congratulations to Adam and Lauren on the birth of Hudson. The Parkfield nursery is filling quickly. Finally a Merry Xmas as well as a safe, happy and prosperous New Year to everyone associated with the Parkfield Cricket Club. I look forward to seeing you all again in early January. Round 7 on January 12th, The Parkfield Saloon on January 19th, Past Players day January 26th and Dom's Day February 17th. Dags Parkfield President 6 Player Profile: Tony Payne Name: Tony Payne Nickname: Payney Age: A very young 43. Suburb: Noble Park North Significant Other: My beautiful wife Tracey. Batting / Bowling Style: Right Hand / Right Arm Position/s Held At Parkfield: President, Secretary and Junior coach. Cricket Awards / Achievements / Premierships: Club Champion, Darren Linton medal, Batting & Bowling Aves. Played in 7 senior Grand Finals for Parkfield and have won them all. How Did I Come To Play Cricket, Or Be Involved In Cricket And For How Long Have I Been Playing / Been Involved: I used to watch my dad play as a kid. Filled in for his D grade side in the Moorabbin Comp twice as an 8 year old and was hooked. Then I started playing Under 12’s for Parkfield. 35 years later and I am still hooked. Inspirations Growing Up: In cricket I used to love watching Greg Chappell bat. Outside of cricket Nelson Mandela is my most admired person by a fair way. Most Memorial Cricket Moment: Winning premierships. That moment when you actually win is indescribable. I have enjoyed winning flags with my dad, brother and some fantastic friends along the way. Really enjoyed the last one when we got to go and watch Turf 3 win straight after the Turf 1 victory. Most Humiliating Cricket Moment: Getting out first ball of the match in under 12’s and throwing my gear all the way off the ground. Glad I grew out of that in a hurry. A Parkfield Moment That You Remember Like Yesterday: Ant Hardie encouraging an old local bloke walking past Parkfield early one Sunday morning to bowl to him after an all nighter and then being unable to lay bat on ball. The old bloke then gave Ant an inspirational speech about life thinking he was handicapped. My Biggest Belly Laugh Was When: Has to be when Hubba was captain and the Hallam blokes asked him to remove a massive dog shit from the oval before the game. Hubba replied “get f.....d move it yourself”. We ended up fielding and later on in the day Hubba had to dive to stop a ball at mid on. He slid straight into the shit and spent the rest of the day fielding with a big brown patch on his whites and being covered in flies. / Any game with Johnny O’Hare. If I Wasn’t Playing Cricket: I don’t know. I’ll let you know when I retire. 7 Favourite Trip Away Destination & Why: A few trips to the Kings Cross as a young bloke were a great eye opener and I really enjoyed the Marty Monster tours to the Gold Coast. AFL Team I Support & Why: Richmond. Because that was the only way Dad would take me to the footy as a kid. I Am Currently Driving: 1996 Holden. Tracey gets the good car. The Song / Album Currently Playing In My Car: I like a wide variety of music. Normally just pick a decade between the 1960’s and 2010’s, whatever I feel like at the time, and put it on shuffle. I am Reading: Encouraging Appropriate Behaviour written by Murray Irwan. Murray is Tracey’s cousin and we see him every Xmas. I need to finish it by then because I know we will talk about it. Cats, Dogs or Other & Why: Dog – Cotch, The unconditional love that a dog gives its owners is amazing. Favourite Drink: Riley hopped in my car last Sunday and there was an empty water bottle, an empty Gatorade bottle and an empty stubby on the floor in the front. He picked them up and said “Dad – pre-game, mid game and after game.” These are just about the only 3 things that I drink. 11pm On A Saturday Night I Would Most Likely Be: At Parkfield. David Ford / Glen Brown / Luke Wanless / Phil Drew - If You Had To Be Stuck On An Island With One Of These Guys, Who Would It Be & Why: Fordy or Luke might be the most broad minded and easiest to talk into things. Ha Ha. Mr.Cricket - Which Parkfield Player Is Most Deserving Of This Nickname: Jack Jones or Faron. If They Made A Movie About Your Life, Who Would Play The Lead Role: Some tall good looking bloke that goes grey prematurely. #GeorgeClooney If You Owned A Horse / Greyhound Want Name Would You Give It: Have had 3 dogs called Parkfield Flyer, Parkfield Pirate and Parkfield Champ.
