Conference games still tied after a five-minute 5-on-5 overtime advance to a five-minute 3-on-3 overtime (and sudden victory shootout if still tied) with the team that wins the second overtime/shootout receiving an extra point in the standings (3/SW in the standings), making all games worth three (3) points. The 3-on-3 overtime and shootouts only affect conference standings, while the game is officially a tie for NCAA purposes. UpComiNg gameS NCHC FaCts aNd Figures • For the second straight weekend, six NCHC teams are in action, all Friday, Oct. 25 facing non-conference competition. Half of the six non-conference Miami at Colgate, 7:00 p.m. ET series are against Big Ten foes as Colorado College (vs. Michigan State), No. 18 Western Michigan at Michigan, 7:30 p.m. ET Minnesota Duluth (vs. Minnesota) and Western Michigan (vs. Michigan) No. 8/8 Minnesota Duluth at No. 20 Minnesota, 7:00 p.m. CT look to improve the NCHC’s 2-4-1 combined record against Big Ten teams TV: FOX Sports North PLUS/FOX College Sports Atlantic so far this season. The NCHC is off to a 15-11-5 start in non-conference Bemidji State at No. 16 North Dakota, 7:37 p.m. CT play overall this season, with the .565 win percentage second among the No. 11/11 Northeastern at No. 14/14 St. Cloud State, 7:37 p.m. CT six Division I men’s hockey conferences (Big Ten at .708). The NCHC has Michigan State at Colorado College, 7:37 p.m. MT posted the best combined non-conference winning percentage in four of TV: AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain the last five seasons, including last year at .659. (page 9) • Five NCHC teams are ranked in the USCHO.com Poll, tying for the most Saturday, Oct. 26 from one conference, with Omaha and CC both receiving votes, as well. Miami at Colgate, 4:00 p.m. ET Denver remains No. 1 in both polls for the second straight week after Michigan at No. 18 Western Michigan, 7:05 p.m. ET staying perfect on the season at 6-0-0 with a sweep of Boston College No. 11/11 Northeastern at No. 14/14 St. Cloud State, 6:07 p.m. CT last weekend. With the Pioneers still in the top spot, an NCHC team TV: FOX Sports North PLUS/FOX College Sports Atlantic has now been ranked No. 1 in the USCHO.com Poll in 64 of the last 76 No. 20 Minnesota at No. 8/8 Minnesota Duluth, 7:07 p.m. CT weeks dating back to the start of the 2016-17 season. Half of the NCHC Bemidji State at No. 16 North Dakota, 7:07 p.m. CT teams have held the No. 1 spot during that span (Denver, UMD, North Michigan State at Colorado College, 6:07 p.m. MT Dakota and St. Cloud State), while the NCHC is home to the last four NCAA National Champions. Only three NCHC teams are ranked in the USA NCHC.tv schedule on page 11 Hockey Magazine Poll, with DU a unanimous No. 1, while UMD sits at No. 8 and St. Cloud State is ranked No. 14. (page 9) LaSt Week’S ResultS • Only four teams in the country (that have played a game so far) remain Friday, Oct. 18 perfect on the penalty kill this season and two of them reside in the NCHC at No. 12/13 Ohio State 3, Omaha 2 in North Dakota and St. Cloud State. UND is 13-for-13 on the penalty kill at Miami 4, Ferris State 3 this season, while SCSU is 4-for-4. Massachusetts and Notre Dame are at Bowling Green 2, No. 14/15 Western Michigan 1 the other two. Denver is fifth nationally in penalty kill percentage at .960 at No. 17 Wisconsin 6, No. 3/2 Minnesota Duluth 2 (24-for-25), giving the NCHC three of the top five penalty kill units in the No. 16 North Dakota 4, at No. 2/3 Minnesota State 4 (OT) NCAA. In addition, North Dakota leads the country allowing only 17.25 shots on goal against per game. Denver and SCSU, meanwhile, are two of at No. 1/1 Denver 3, No. 6/6 Boston College 0 only four teams in the NCAA with at least two short-handed goals already Saturday, Oct. 19 this season (Wisconsin and Michigan Tech as well). (page 26) Omaha 2, at No. 12/13 Ohio State 1 • Omaha is tied with Wisconsin for the NCAA lead with seven power play Ferris State 3, at Miami 1 goals on the season. The Mavericks are 7-for-22 a man up with the 31.8 Bowling Green 2, at No. 14/15 Western Michigan 1 (OT) percent success rate ranking fifth nationally. On the flip side, Omaha is tied for the NCAA lead allowing only 1.25 goals against per game. (page 26) at No. 17 Wisconsin 3, No. 3/2 Minnesota Duluth 1 • Only five players in D-I men’s hockey have two game-winning goals at No. 2/3 Minnesota State 2, No. 16 North Dakota 1 already this season and two call the NCHC home in Denver sophomore at No. 1/1 Denver 6, No. 6/6 Boston College 4 forward Cole Guttman and Omaha freshman forward Joey Abate.
