Introduction This final internship report is being submitted as an Alternate Plan Paper as partial fulfillment for the Degree of Master of Science in Geography at Minnesota State University, Mankato. The internship took place at the Center for Homicide Research (CHR) in Minneapolis, Minnesota from January through June of 2018. My title was Geographic Information System (GIS) Intern. The emphasis of the internship was to improve my general research and GIS research skills, to prepare and use data for GIS analysis, and to present the analysis. Besides my own work, I also took part in presentations and discussions lead by the CHR staff and other interns. The internship was significant and beneficial because it developed skills that are marketable, required in the workplace, and increased critical thinking abilities.
